PC, Cannot even install the Sim, Crashing on Startup

Are you on Xbox, Steam or Microsoft Store version?
MS Store

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?
No

I Started the Sim yesterday after some time, just wanted to fly a bit. I Downloaded the Updates and get CTDs all the Time. The i thought, okay reinstall the whole Sim. Did so, first boot and CTD. After multiple crashes i installed my whole system new, Downloaded the Sim, CTD on Loading Splash Screen. Now, i cant even install my game because it crashes before the package installation process!

I am now locked out of one of the most expensive games ever bought, it wont let me even install the game!

I swallowed a lot of things, the Installation Proces is a major Pain even with 250K Network Speed. The Update Process is an uncomfortable mess.

But thats the end now, one of the biggest companies on the Planet isnt capable of doing a “normal” game exprerience. That goes so far, that the game is crashing BEFORE any Installation. Please help me guys, i cant do anything right now… :frowning:

There can be any number of reasons as to what may have happened, and they can be very hard to find.

There are several ways to try to get things going again.
You can go to “Support” at the top of the page. There are numerous articles in there that may be of help.
You can also use the Search function at the top right of every page and look for posts from folks who had similar issues.

I have also put together a procedure list of fixes found on this forum that may help.

Ensure all addons are removed from the Community folder, and any 3rd party plug-ins such as Navigraph etc., are uninstalled.
Remove any overclocks you have set up.
If you have used the Google map replacement, uninstall it using it’s uninstaller.
Ensure any third party antivirus programs (Avast, AVG, etc) are shut down.
Ensure you have an open path through the Window’s firewall.
Ensure all Windows updates are installed.
Make sure the time and zone in your PC settings are correct.
Sign out of the xbox app on your PC, and shut down Xbox app.
Sign out of MS Store App, and shut down same.
Shut down computer.
Unplug all controllers, except mouse and keyboard.
Restart computer.
Open and sign into Xbox app.
Open and sign into MSStore.
Reboot computer again.
Try sim.
Plug in controllers.

Let us know how you make out.

This is exactly my problem since jun 2021, it always crashes at splash screen never installing the game. After long discussions with zendesk, they came to the conclussion that most likely my gamesave/profile on the MS server is corrupt.
On xbox you can reset/delete your gameprofile/saves you can’t on pc. You need acces to an xbox to solve it. I Don’t have acces to an Xbox so for me no MSFS anymore until they fix this. I hope that more reports like yours will inspire them to come with a fix.

This is what Zendesk wrote;

Apologies for the very long response. It would seem that your last cloud save is corrupted which is why you’re crashing upon loading.
Unfortunately, it is currently not possible from a PC to delete game saves from the Xbox cloud. Do you have access to an Xbox console? Xbox consoles allow players to delete the saves from the cloud.

Which XBOX do i need?

i am sorry i am not familiar with the Xbox versions.

That will only fix your issue if it is a profile issue.
That is very rare to have happen.

May be rare, but there are more reports concerning this issue, users with this problem try everything, reinstalling/resetting game, completly reinstall their PC’s or install on other PC’s. I did al these things without result and before that MSFS ran great on my PC. The problem is not with the users!

I found a friend of an friend with an Xbox Series X, he deleted my cloud save. Now im Stuck at the Download loop  This is such a ridicolous experience just to INSTALL A GAME! It was fully functional before! I´m out of words, seriously…

Why doesn’t that surprise me?

If you do want some advice, go through the steps I listed above.
They are a summation of almost all of the fixes I have ever seen posted here.
There are several articles on these issues in the “Support” tab at the top of every page here in the forum that may also be some help.

Hi everyone, I am looking for some help please!

About 2 weeks ago I purchased FS 2020 40th Anniversary (MS Store download), after a few initial false starts, finally downloaded it via the xbox app onto my PC and it installed with no problem.
For the past 2 weeks (don’t always have that much time!) I cannot get past the initial updates despite finding (difficult enough!) the ‘official’ folder to delete anything not in a folder (as suggested in amongst the 50 or so ‘solutions’ I found!!).

Every time the updates start but then crash! I get a few different reasons for this such as:
Your computer has crashed (blue screen with sad face!) and we are collecting data then you can restart. - back to the beginning again! This has happened a few times.
There is a problem with your computer running Direct X12 and may have to revert to Direct X11 - how on earth do you do that? This has happened only twice so far!
Or I come back to the PC after a while of downloading updates and MSFS 2020 has just stopped - no reason and just back to windows- so start yet again!
I have updated windows, deleted then reinstalled the xbox app and FS2020 several times and the same thing still happens! I have tried to find these ‘Official’ and ‘Community’ folders but can’t find them (this might be because I actually haven’t been to the start of the sim yet?!?)

This is getting very frustrating and I’m almost at the point where I’m just going to buy X Plane!
I’m not a technophobe or a programmer so I’m hoping someone can explain to me how or why this keeps occurring?

My PC specs are:
I7 9700K water cooled (not overclocked), Z390 TUF Gaming M/B, 32Gb Ram, GTX2070Super and 1TB hard disk.
Haven’t got any peripherals apart from mouse/keyboard attached and have a stable wired internet connection.

Many thanks in advance.

Apologies for replying to a post - now replying to the topic!

Sorry to hear you are having these issues.
When they happen, it can be quite hard indeed to figure out the cause.

The first piece of advice I can give you is to only delete the file the installation is stuck on (they willl be in the Official/OneStore file), then shut down and restart the sim and the installation.
Another common one is to ensure all your windows updates are installed.
MSFS is very fussy if they aren’t.
