SYS fan 1,2,3,4 etc just refers to the fan headers on the motherboard. If cable length allows, any of the fans in the PC can be connected to any of the headers.
I would highly recommend the Fan Control app - it’s brilliant, free, and you can get it from here: https://getfancontrol.com/
This little gem allows you to control all of the fans in your PC exactly as you wish, including those on the GPU. The PSU is the only exception, for obvious reasons.
There are loads of tutorials on the site and online, but it’s really easy to set up, and it allows you to tweak and tinker around like nothing else. The original reason the project was created is the ability to ‘Mix’ fan curves. So, instead of your GPU getting hot, spinning up the fans for a few seconds and blowing the hot air up to the CPU, which then in turn gets hot and noisily spins up the AIO cooler or case fans, you can link fans inside the case and have them all respond to a particular sensor or sensors.
In the scenario above where the GPU is getting hot, and the heat then soaks up towards the CPU, fan control allows you to have all the pc fans react and ramp up together right away, so the CPU doesn’t need an extra burst from the fans attached to it’s cooler. If the CPU is running hot, you can have every fan in the PC ramp up immediately to bring in extra fresh air, and cool the whole thing down quicker than normal.
The variations are endless, but it’s easy to set up and then tweak as you prefer. Each parameter can be set and varied, so you can set a maximum temperature limit over your cpu for example, and let the app control the fans such that the processor never exceeds 80 degrees (or whatever you choose).
It also has a really useful function in identifying and testing the fans - you can command each one to stop, restart, run at max speed or whatever, and then you can rename them in the app. So instead of SYS Fan 2, Sys Fan 3 etc. you can clearly identify them as ‘Case Front 1’, ‘Case Rear Fan,’ CPU Fan 1’ etc etc.
It’s a brilliant app and well worth trying out, especially as it’ll cost you nothing. If you like it you can make a donation to the developers, but they don’t pressure you.
