PC purchased specifically for MSFS, won't play!

Funny mention “power”. I did upgrade the PC to the 1000w power connector, as it was necessary due to the Graphics Card I had put in (Nvidia Geo Force RTX 3080). But when I check Task Manager the power is in the red, looks maxed out. Im not really sure what that means or how to even address it. I did have a friend tell me that the power showing in the red is totally normal?

Ha.Now that was funny! LOL

I’m not saying it’s this, but I don’t know what kind of quality the OEM power supplies Dell is throwing in its rigs. A lot of times this is where they skimp in order to save a buck.

A 1000w PSU should not be necessary, but could help with the spiking issue if the PSU is quality. Just because it’s got wattage doesn’t mean it is though. I have overclocked both my 5900x and RTX 3090 and it runs fine on 850 watts.

I’d seriously drop this off at the local nerd shop, rather than wasting a lot more time tinkering. They’d definitely be able to diagnose a PSU issue and would know how to mess around in the game to see what’s happening.

When looking at Task Manager when the game is running, the power is in “the red” meaning its maxed out? Im not sure if this is an issue or if there is any recourse ? The PC was upgraded to the 1000w power adapter as having put the RTX 3080 card in it, the 1000w power cord was mandatory. Is there something I can do here with regards to power?

That’s probably normal, and more for users who are trying to figure out what’s eating the battery on their laptop.

You’d probably instead need a more robust hardware monitor that’s analyzing how many watts the CPU and GPU are drawing.

But unless the PSU is bad, 1000w should be more than enough, and you shouldn’t have to do any additional messing around there.

Power usage in task manager only indicates an application is making high use of the CPU and/or GPU. Nothing to do with the actual PSU, Windows doesn’t know anything about it.

1000W is way more than necessary for a 3080. I only run 850W and my system is packed full of other stuff.

Anyone know how to…delete MSFS from the PC? LOL, yes, its got that bad for me. I tried deleting the game in Steam, only to notice when I would go to “re-install” it only took like 5 minutes, and Not the 5 hours it originally took. Thus obviously telling me it never “really uninstalled itself?” Why does steam even have uninstall if its not going to actually uninstall? Anyway, now Im trying to do it from the PC directly, says I uninstalled it, yet I can clearly see my C drive is halfway taken up (250GB) so obviously this monster (MSFS) is STILL on my PC? Its got so bad gents, I can’t even delete the ■■■■ thing!! This is NUTS!!! I do appreciate any and all feedback though, thank you!

good advice, much appreciated.

Instead of comparing with War Thunder, maybe try installing DCS (base version is free) and seeing how that runs? There’s also benchmarking software such as 3D Mark you could try.

DCS is nowhere near as taxing as FS, but may help to rule out hardware issues - which I don’t think are particularly likely.

This sounds painful-your pc has great specs-if you’re running other games ok that’s encouraging-how do p3d and xplane run?
Have you changed the msfs install directory or is it on your main ssd?

PCs built by Dell and other companies usually come with tons of preinstalled software, most of which noone needs or uses, but which may always run in the background. The more stuff there is running the more likely that some processes don’t work together well, and also the more RAM is in use. All of which may harm performance and/or stability

Have you tried using a program that shuts down all non-essential software like Game Booster?

Great advice, I will certainly do that. Thanks

Its installed on the SSD. I do have an HDD that came with the PC, but I was thinking if I wanted to play the game on the faster SSD, I would need to have it installed on the SSD? certainly let me know if I have that wrong? Thanks

Will do, thanks much. I agree, it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue.

Thanks much. Kinda what I was thinking as well. Im doing a bit more troubleshooting, then its going back to Dell. Paid far too much money for this to be having these kind of problems.

Thanks Bam, very much appreciate that offer, very nice of you. I wish I was close enough to take you up on that, Im actually in eastern Pennsylvania, on the NJ border. Let me know if you have the ability to do a “PC share” and thus could look at it that way? Not sure if you have that kind of ability. Thanks much, message me direct and I can give you my contact info if your able to do a “remote diagnosis” Thanks again.

definately return it if it doesn’t run what you want. I’ve purchased dozens of Dell over the last 30 years, and generally happy though I have returned 2 or 3 them … once I rebought the exact same PC (after Dell tech assured me the 1st one was 100% ok) , and the 2nd one ran perfectly.

Thanks! Probably a dumb question, but does Dell pay for the shipping? Can only imagine what this thing would cost to ship.

Yes the SSD is where it should be so that sounds OK.
Is your CPU or GPU overclocked?
Have you tried a full uninstall and reinstall of the sim? Might be worth contacting zendesk for info on how to do this.
Make sure the GPU and RAM are seated securely and all the electricals are plugged in correctly.
Might be worth going into device manager to look for any alerts or warnings

I think so, requested the return and then printed out the mailing label and had it picked up.
