ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue: PC complete shutdown while idle in the marketplace, no flight loaded.
it happened the third time now. in the past i had this happen in one challenge, when i finished the low and fast challenge with SU 3 beta, but never happened somewhere else. with su4 beta this bug was taken to the menu/marketplace for no reason. i flew the challenge which triggered this shutdown and it did not happen with su4, only in menu/marketplace. event viewer no special information, it just says system was shut down without a reason. i don’t get any CTDs, flying was always stable.

Your PC just turns off completely and you have to turn it back on manually? No bluescreen or anything?
The chance this is because of MSFS is actually near zero. It’s possible MSFS causes some kind of load that triggers the actual cause but it’s not the sims fault directly. This could have all kind of causes. High Temperature, lose connection, PSU can’t cope with a spike in load, hardware defect, instable OC, Windows issue and so much more. But since event viewer doesn’t show anything my guess is on something below the software layer
how can i say then that it ALWAYS did the shut down when flying the low & fast challenge and near the end of the flight, if i pause and did not fly over the finish line → no shut down, but as soon i did fly over the finish line the shut down was triggered! Always!
Now the shut down happens doing nothing in the menu.
Its not the hardware, it happens always in the same software situation, flying over the finish line and now being in the marketplace.
If the load in the menu is higher compared to doing hours of flying, then i really don’t know
Hi @GaryX1001
I’d suggest you look in the windows application & system logs & see if any event is being recorded around the time that this happens. Since it is reproducible on your PC you should see some entries around the time of the shutdown that may point you in a direction to investigate.
I can do 10 hours of stress testing in cinebench and my PC never crashes. I start y-cruncher and it immediately shuts down. But that’s not the programs fault, it just exposes an instability because it uses the hardware differently. The chances that MSFS is the actual cause is near zero. It’s likely just exposing an issue you haven’t noticed yet.
As SmotheryVase665 suggested, take a look at the event viewer again, maybe there is something? Also, could you give us more info on how exactly your PC shuts down? Blue screen, can you hear your PSU click, have to manually turn it back on again…. ?
Does the PC shut down completely or does it restart?
It does shut down complete, pc off!
It was so curious in SU3 beta, when i had that happen the first time, it recognized my time to the leaderboard was saved but it was not a hard shut off, you were able to see that the computer is going down, always in the same challenge. Now the performance in SU 4 beta seems way better, much smoother, maybe abit too aggressiv? I just finished cleaning the computer inside, will do another test today.
Just to mention what software can do: MS released Visual C++ Redist 14.50, i installed the VS community 2022 to compile some programs, well, installing the MSVC v145 breaks the Magix Vegas Pro forever, no chance to get it back working. I had bought v20 and 23, both killed, several posts on the vegas forum about that. Say that because in MSFS 2020 it always crashed because of v140 of that library, newer builds seemed to have fixed these problems, but now the made perrm compatibility issues.
Good idea.
Also, make sure that Automatically restart option is unchecked.
You can find it by pressing Win + R
typing sysdm.cpl and pressing Enter.
Then go to the Advanced tab → under Startup and Recovery, click Settings and uncheck the Automatically restart option → OK → OK.
Restart PC
Ok, here is an update guys:
I took out the 6900xt to clean and replace thermal pads + gpu grease.
The 6900xt was always a hot-runner, in msfs 2024 85°c - 95°c hotspot.
After the replacement of the thermic components i have a temp of 61°c with 77°c hotspot.
Will report back if such a shutdown comes back again, because it really was curious, especially ONLY when finishing that challenge flight. But as i have read in the forum there also was a bug in 2020 triggered in the marketplace..
i will continue watching..
