PC Shuts down while loading

Hi all,

I have been trying to setup simulator on my desktop. Im having issue where my computer shuts down during initial loading of the game ( right before landing screen with game options as soon as blue progress bar loads completely ). I only experience this with this game.

Since computer crashes before i even start flying and doing anything compute heavy, i doubt its load related, i ran a few gpu stress tests etc which doesnt cause any problem with pc, all looks stable. Temperatures of gpu , cpu looks fine. I did multiple reinstalls of game, tried starting in safe mode etc, nothing helped.

Its funny i have played the game in my laptop and it worked fine there ( dell xps 15 ) with far worse thermal management, but here i couldnt even start the game.

Anyone experienced this or have any suggestions on how can i diagnose the root cause or solve this problem?

My system:
Aorus master z390 motherboard
I9 9900k cpu
32 gb ram
Rtx 2080 ti gpu
750watt psu from corsair

Personal Comments and Observations

Sounds like it may be hardware related, possibly a PS issue.

So if I understand you correctly, it is shutting down before you get to the world map planner?

Yea pretty much before i land screen where i can do anything in game. I see the plane in my hangar for split second, then boom its gone.

I have seen suggestions on psu on few threads , but how do i even verify if thats the case before spending money on this. I did stress test running gpu at 100% for extended period of time. Gpu draws max 300 watts, and like i mentioned i cant even start a flight to cause a spike in power usage .i have a yoke, rudder pedals etc ,i disconnected everything to make sure they arent drawing power.

Is there any log that game or operating system generates to diagnose any hardware/software issue if its hardware issue? ( not sure why hardware issue specifically occurs in this game either )

I doubt its your power supply, unless it’s failing.
Add your processor at maximum watts about 150, fans don’t draw much, so unless you have a lot of other stuff plugged in the PC, you should be OK.

I’m presuming you haven’t used any of the sim performance mods that are out recently, they are known to cause issues.

If not, I would start with this checklist and the linked articles in it.

PSU failure most likely.

Click “start” and type advanced system settings - press enter
Under “startup and recovery” click settings.
Uncheck automatically restart - click ok ok

Restart PC

Random shutdowns are almost always related to the PSU. Stress testing under load may not reveal anything, as some nasty transient spikes on weak or older PSUs can be enough to drop the OCP/OPP and cause a complete shutdown.

The easiest way to test the PSU is just to buy a new one and replace it.

Thanks ,unchecking this helped pc not shutting down, now only the game crashes in loading screen lol.

Own a corsair rmx750, too bad its only 2 years old and size seems ok according to any calculator i used online to calculate system requirements, but i am considering doing that now , maybe getting a 1000w one. Though once i disabled windows settings to prevent shutdown now game alone started to crash.

As a last check before buying a new PS, check that every cable on your PS is properly seated and remove any dust in and around the PS and the case as well. In my limited, personal experience, total shutdown was always caused by PS overload or defect.

My system draws 650W during startup (as measured by a loadmeter on my UPS.) Typically about 500W during flight.

5800X3D
3090 Ti
Power draw includes monitors and a bunch of other stuff, so not really a fair comparison.

In my 20+ years building and repairing client computers, I’ve seen most power off crashes caused by bad power supplies. But I have seen bad RAM, and even a motherboard defect cause them. ALL of those cause crashes at a basic OS level.

Something about this sim is causing OP’s system to power down. And I agree that it’s most likely a power supply problem. Just saying that it might be something else.

OP should buy a quality 1000W power supply from a place that will allow a 30-day return window. He’ll need to take the time and effort to install and test it. if it solves the problem, great. If not, I’d replace RAM next.

I have ssen a poor thermal paste job cause rapid CPU overheating leading to a protective shutdown, but OP says he’s run a stress test, so that’s unlikely.

So I found a way to save you some money

So if just the sim is crashing to desktop then it’s not the power supply. I would recommend backing up the community folder and then clearing it out. Might be some rogue add-on not playing well with the sim.
