Performance issues related to RdrThread


ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
It seems that there is something in the RdrThread that can cause a large drop of FPS in certain situations. While foveated rendering should improve performance it makes the situation even worse. See also VR - Bug in Foveated Rendering related to RdrThread this issue is still applicable as well.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
Yes, it was also a problem in the later SU2 beta builds and also in the release build.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
No.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Everytime in certain situations.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load flight on a larger airport, i.e. Aerosoft EDDF, FlightBeam Studio KSFO, …
  2. Go into VR
  3. Runway 19L in KSFO as shown in my example videos in the linked issue from SU2
  4. Look to the left (sea)
  5. Look to the right (terminal)

What peripherals are currently plugged in, as well as your VR headset? Please name all of them as there could be a potential conflict.
Not relevant.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No. It was only used to display the FPS in the videos.

• As far as I can see, most bespoke/handcrafted airports have this issue. Even small airports like WX53 (Bugalaga).

This issue did not exist in SU1 and the first SU2 beta builds.

• Yes.

• Happens consistently at handcrafted airports - see KMIA, KORD, KLAX (all different creators) etc. In particular, when looking at terminal buildings, main terminal buildings, RdrThread peaks and sustains in VR until looking away from the main terminal.

This is so unfortunate because VR is the only way I play MSFS. I have been unable to play MSFS 2024 because of this specific issue. When in flight, or away from major terminals, there is no performance impact.

MSFS 2020, this never happens.

See this too and this is the reason for extrem stuttering view in VR when panning your head.

Rtx 4090 and Varjo Aero combined with 9900x3d CPU

SU2 is lots smoother

No improvement with the latest build (1.5.2.0). Extreme low FPS (High RdrThread) at airports in VR, for example 11 FPS on St. Barths (TFFJ) on my system…

Yeah, can confirm, still present at handcrafted airports for me sadly.

I am not using VR but the airport i was using have an increased RdrThread ms. Not much, not effecting fps but it is still there. LICJ gate110 - SU2 7.1/7.8ms vs SU3beta 12.9ms - 16.6ms (16.6ms with different aircraft) (exact apple to apple comparison)

Same here. No files in community folder. Just sitting at the gate at default EIDW with the A330. FPS most of the time 58fps and then it drops to low 30s for a short while and the goes back to over 50s.
