Performance settings with 3 monitors RTX3090. Any advice?

Just got my rig built, three 32" 2.5k monitors and a RTX 3090 gpu. I was messing with some of the performance settings but didnt have much luck making any real difference. Curious what other people with 3 monitors are doing or what might be a good starting point for getting the frame rates up. Thank for any suggestions.

what do you mean exactly ? high frames do not always mean a smooth flight in this SIM or others.
Since yesterday I have a 3090RTX instead of the 2080Ti and the performance jump is not immense (looking at the number of FPS) but very high, indeed.
the first time I can turn everything up and set resolution slider to 120% (it goes higher, we are already slowly at 100%, but wants to prevent such a high load, but still smooth anyway) and the result is top.
Frames limited to 33 FPS, GSYNC on, vertical sync off and everything is as smooth as butter.
wasn’t like that with the 2080Ti.
3 x 27"@5760x1080, CPU 10920X@4,6HGhz, 64GB RAM, SSD, 1200Watt PSU!
The CPU and graphics card harmonize very well together, before I was limited to GPU at this resolution !
like I said - if you turn it all up in FS2020 and at these resolutions even the NASA supercomputer would struggle with the FPS, it’s all about having a smooth experience and this is only possible with limited FPS !

FS 2020 doesn’t work well with multiple monitors (yet). It’s fine if all you want to do is drag the VFR map and a few other things over. Visually, three monitors will just make the image look stretched. It’s not like X-plane where we can adjust each monitor so the “picture” looks as it should.

I run FS 2020 on my center monitor and use a second monitor for pulling up USEFULL VFR sectionals. The third monitor I use to search for FS 2020 bugs  and my fourth monitor displays “Home Assistant.”

I stopped paying attention to frame rates. It’s like a dog chasing its tail. Just start turning stuff up until ugly things start happening.

i have an I9 10980Xe with a 3090, and only 33fps (64go DDr). the CPU is only at 16 to 19%, and the GPU at 69%

And the FPS stay at 30 to 35 !! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
If you have any advice

In the main menu, my GPU run at 100% !!!

wrong reply  !

I think you might have meant to respond to vince007one.

oh yes, sorry !! :grinning:

hmm strange, my CPU load is also at 20-25% (sporadically higher), GPU in the menu normal at about 40% - and in the game itself it even climbs to 97% (with ReShade) !
But on average at 70-85% - max FPS I can’t tell you, mine are limited to 33 FPS - it’s super smooth.
Zotac 3090 RTX Trinity, max. Temp 72°-73° - everything on ultra (except motion blur is off) - resolution scale 110 ! Yesterday I used DDU (display driver uninstaller) - and I imagine that the utilization is higher today - but it could also be a placebo, and I reinstalled my MSFS over night (was a disaster, the first time for me that it went wrong, so far I had no problems with reinstalling until yesterday, but that’s another story)

take a look at this video Dreadful performance

  • try to set the game mod on (windows) - Nvidia Control Panel - make a profile for MSFS - set maximum performance option, etc. - I can’t remember all threads now but there are some instructions here in the forum to scribble out the rest of the performance!

No worries. I just wanted to make sure your info got to the correct person.

My CPU is a 32 core AMD Threadripper, probably not the best choice but the machine was free so Im not sending it back lol.

What I was more asking was if anyone knew of what options had the biggest impact on performance from the Graphics setup menu. Best anti aliasing opens, detail settings, stuff like that, which settings make the most impact to boost fps.

Flying around new york it dropped to like 15-20 fps which kinda sucked.

I used this guide.

hmm, ok, that’s more information I see below you already have an answer - but with you one has to find out what is limited !
RTX 3090 with 32 Core AMD Threadripper and your frames are down to 15-20 ?
I haven’t seen this with my system - as I mentioned above 3 x 27". @5760x1080 and I can keep 33 FPS constant almost everywhere (sporadic break-ins during loading and I have activated the ReShade profile or Nvidia Ansel, also takes a pair of frames)
I would start with the approach of looking at workload, memory usage etc. to find out where it’s bouncing.
Whereby we still partly have a “FSX” in the base of FS2020, even a 100core CPU is not faster - not really optimized for multi-core support yet, could be. Maybe it will change with DX12.
Yes, the Threadripper is a monster - no question about it, but the SingleCore performance is not really “high”, compared to certain Intel processors, will probably change with 5000 series from AMD.
Apparently the “old”, “good” SingleCore performance is very important (as you can see from various forums and results), but it doesn’t have to be.
Try to reduce AI (also cars etc.), display radius etc. and try again and again.

Settings wise:

  • glass panel refresh rate to medium or low
  • reduce AI aircraft density (or disable completely)
  • set ‘use generic models’ for both AI and players to ‘on’
  • reduce terrain / objects detail sliders

Thanks for the tips! Ill give a try.

Yeah thats what I figured on the single core performance. Im going to sell this machine I think and get an zippy intel. Im rendering quite a few more pixels then you, 7550x1280 (or something like that nvidia surround tweaked it)
Made some headway last night, ill keep at it. Appreciate the help
