I just downloaded a very good photogrametry pack for my city Buenos Aires, and it is really good, but the thing is, when I fly over the city with a Cessna or a Diamond, the loading times to show the high quality details on the buildings is very slow, I can see how it is loading as I pass above the buildings.
I tried turning on the rolling cache but is not helping.
The question is, is there any way to load the photogrametry all at once so I don’t see that building transformation or textures loading as I pass over them?
I have the photogrametry archives downloaded from flightsim.to on my community folder.
Thanks for any help you can give, since the sensation of flying over my city with this photogrametry will be very real, also I am using VR only.
Is it just this pack or does this happen for a few places? Which flightsim.to download?
Also, with VR it can really be intense on even a good system so what are your specs and high level settings? In Dev Mode you can get a quick sense of what your main bottleneck is (GPU’s struggle with super high resolutions, CPU’s with super high LOD - there will always be a bottleneck, but it’s good to see the balance).
To answer your question, I don’t think there is a way to load the photogrammetry all at once as it does it in the background while the system is doing other things. If it’s struggling them it might fill in the level of detail as you can see it.
My LOD is about 120, I only flight with VR (Oculus Quest 2), my settings are almost all at HIGH or ULTRA, my Limited is on the Mainthread almost all the time.
I have a 3080 (12Gb), Ryzen 5800x3D, the simulator is on an M.2 WD Black.
So, should I lower LOD to see a better result?
I will check on other photogrametry in other part of the world to see if the problem is only with this one, but I remember this happened me before, on other places too, with the WU photogrametries also.
I know DemoKen Just released 2 version of Buenos Aires. The high detail version first released is 32GB The lower detailed version released less than a day ago is still 19GB this is a very large scenery. How much Ram do you have? 32GB I could see it struggling. I’ll have to load it in and see what it uses
Yes, indeed, he used my optimization tools. However, in such big sceneries, if you use the high detail version (17-20 lods), you really need to have a high spec computer to make it work smoothy.
I suggest you to use the 17-19 lod version, or to focus on a specific part of the city.
There is a possibility to use 17-20 LODS in the whole scenery, but the author has to adjust the LOD settings in the optimization tools. Regarding the first comment of this topic, i guess this is what DemoKen has done, but this leads to load the high detail LOD version of the tile nearer to the plane.
Just try the 17-19 LOD version, and see if the highest lod version of the tile is loaded more far from the plane.
Thank you so much guys, I will download the 17-19 version right now and test it!
Will let you know what are the results and the differences with the texture loading times of the 17-20 LOD version!
This is really an amazing work that Demoken has done on the 17-19 LOD version, since he covered the whole city of Buenos Aires, however, I am still suffering the same effect of slow texture loading.
I tried bringing back the LOD from 120 to 90, but there is no effect on texture loading speeds.
My CPU on the peak texture loading and usage is at 60%, from my 32Gb of ram only 12gb are used, and the GPU is at 70%.
