Photogrammetry in Florida not as good as Auckland?

A question for anyone - I was reading a guide book for inspiration on flights in the US and I saw Disneyland, etc in Florida, so I thought I would try a flight around that area. To be honest i was quite disappointed with the photogrammetry, and in particular the tall buildings. Compared to Auckland, London and even New York it was quite bad. Is that correct or perhaps do I have to fly a few times for the scenery to load completely. I know my PC is on the lower end, but I don’t have issues with both London and New York - just wondered what other people thought. By the way the actual area is good for the flight once you get over the actual top, it looks fine then. Just need a good guide to identify what what is what!

This is not a Technical Support Response

Photogrammetry is a region by region and even city by city variance. Some PG datasets are very aged, you can tell which ones were delivered earlier in 2020 as single digit World Updates and later on. PG also varies based on the provider who performed the capture. Notably, Jorg had to defer Hawaii for the longest time because the first contractor Microsoft engaged delivered substandard results.

Over time as regions get revisited, the PG gets progressively better. But PG was never intended for up-close scrutiny. I’ve found over time that at about 5000’ AGL, decent PG holds up well.

If you have a sufficient Rolling Cache, more than two passes over the same area will dump that into the Cache and it stays there until it gets pushed out by newer data once Cache size limit is reached. LODs also matter - for the longest time NYC and the island of Manhattan LOD fell apart after a couple of NM lateral separation. Amazing PG that holds up at any distance is definitely WU Australia. Sydney and Melbourne skylines are recognizable at a very long distance and even at lower altitudes.

Florida PG used to be some of the best and I used to fly there all the time. Lately it seems like the quality changes even as the updates change. I’m confident it will look great again… someday.

Ok thanks. Sometimes, for me, the scenery is a lot better at lower levels around 1200 above ground rather than higher. By the way, is the scenery the same for FS24? or is it a different set of images?

The PG sets are identical between the sims. It’s a streamed data set.

Ok thanks. Nice to know as when i get my new PC I will change to FS24.
