Picking the right VR-headset for MSFS2020/2024

Hello,

Im intending to get a VR headset, but I couldn’t find a clear documentation(s) regarding the hardware requirements for MSFS 2020 or 2024 in terms of the storage capacity. Is it required to buy one with a minimum storage capacity, or any is just fine? for example, the Meta Quest 3 128GB. I will be using it with MSFS2020 initially.

Thank you in advance!

The 128 model is more than fine for msfs. The storage comes in hand when installing games into the headset, which you’ll not do with msfs

You will be running as PC VR so you headset memory will not matter. But if you intend to use Quest apps, the memory is nice.
I gave my wife the S3 with 256 GB. I have the Quest 3 with 512 GB. I started out with the one I gave my wife but the fresnel lens were giving me a headache so I upgraded to the Quest 3 with the pancake lens.
I bought the virtual desktop for $28. The Quest USB cable is a good add-on if you want to cable into your PC, rather than WiFi. I saw no performance increase over WiFi and it does anchor you to the PC (16 ft).
Also, a good game controller like GameSir is great. I don’t like flying by keyboard and the Quest controllers do little.
Learn your controller well before flying VR!

If your budget is tight, go with S3 /128 gb. If your are rolling is doe like me :upside_down_face:, go for the full blown Quest 3/512 gb.
Either way, you’ll love it.

Loud and clear. Thanks a lot!

Bear in mind that you wont find any brand new units of the 128GB Quest 3 as they have been discontinued since the launch of 3S. But you can get the refurbished 128GB Quest 3 which also comes with 1 year warranty

If you can tolerate the crowds, there are some good black Friday deals. Amazon is hosting black Friday deals online.

Thats true, only 512 unfortunatelly

As an avid VR user, beware windows has pretty much killed VR with the latest Win 11 24H2 update. And they have no intention of reinstating it. WMR ( Windows Mixed Reality ) was the driver required. Steam will no longer be supported on November 1, 2026. They took away the backward compatibility to 23H2. It took me most of the day Friday to backtrack with a third party copy of 23H2. Then manipulate the settings so that MS cannot involuntarily update my system. I have Samsung, Quest 3, and PSVR headsets. So far I have found no independent hardware that is making their own software and drivers for headsets. Quest and PlayStation use Steam to work on Windows. And that will end late next year. Best Wishes…

If you’re using a quest 3 WMR doesn’t affect you…

It will affect you! Quest requires SteamVR, that will be phased out next year.

If that’s the case you still have virtual desktop, so a non issue for quest 3 users
