PICO 4 what do you think?

I am thinking of buying for FS … what do you think? Big question mark what will be the quality using wifi6 …?

FOV seems disappointing. Saem as Q2 i think. Also, im not sure but i thought it will only be available in Europe ? I am waiting for the Pimax Crystal, which will be able to be pre-ordered in October for delivery in December ( to the US). There should be users in China through October who will be able to share reviews, but with the larger FOv and clarity, and inside out tracking, it will be a huge step up from my current G2

i’m excited by the Crystal too but it’s very expensive and I doubt the latest revised shipping target of by Christmas, I think it will be late. The Pimax 12K has the clarity of Crystal but with huge fov but who knows when that will arrive as it’s scheduled for release after the Crystal.

My crystal ball (pun intended!) predicts Crystal shipping in Q2 2023 and 12K shipping in Q4 2023.

The YT’er MRTV has done some wifi streaming with the Pico 4/Virtual Desktop and it looks very good.

This headset Pico 4 look very good. An XR2 processor and 8GB RAM, A great FOV (105°) so more than the Quest 2, better resolution with 2 screens and 2160x2160 per eyes, a motorized IP settings, not the 3 fixed values of the Q2, 90Hz or 72Hz, far better ergonomics with battery on the rear for a better balance weight, good controllers with better shape. Used in conjonction with Virtual Desktop ($) it seems to do wonders.
And the price, oh my God the price! 429 € for the 128GB version, and 499€ for the 256GB!
I’ll jump on it as soon as I can!

What headset do you have now?
Just curious as to your ‘upgrade path’ if you see what I mean?

Thanks

G2… but as I read more about Pico 4…
my hype is smaller… if this headset would have DP port… it could be strong point to change, but without not…

An Oculus Rift CV1, the Original, the Ancestor, the Old but Good one. Still functioning pretty well.

A modern classic  It was (is) a great headset. Sold mine a while back but never forgotten
I’m on a G2, but was wondering whether wireless streaming, light weight and the decent price levels might make this a possible alternative.
I suspect performance will drop slightly due to SteamVR vs. WMR but it might be an interesting option.

That may well be so but I haven’t heard this information and I’m wondering where it came from?

As long as it’s as good as my Q2/rtx3090 with Air Link and wifi5, I think the neo 4 should work ok with msfs. Since Pico does not ship to Australia it may be a while before I can try the neo 4 out. In any case, if I were you I’d wait about a month to get feedback from independent users, not just a couple of YT peddlers, lol! Cheers.

FOV is good, comparable to the Index. Lenses are great, nice resolution.

Unfortunately it’s dead on arrival as a PCVR headset as it has no display port and relies on wireless.

They are apparently going to get USB-C connectivity at some point but currently not working it seems.

I have every intention of switching to the Pico Neo 4 from my Quest 2 (though I’ll still hang on to my Index).

I’ve been pretty disappointed in recent months, that there was nothing I could switch to that was wireless if I ditched the Quest 2. I just don’t like being bound to FB/Meta and I simply don’t trust them. Not my data - I knew before I bought Rift CV1 (which I also still have set up) when FB bought Oculus that things were going get juicy, but I was willing to ride along until that time arrived.
For me now, that time is here and I want out, and I think the Pico 4 will do me very nicely, tnank you! At Amazon UK the 128GB version can be ordered for £379 - imho that’s a bargain. I know that people tend not to trust a) China and b) Chinese tech, but I gotta say, I trust Meta/FB even less. Not only that, after 22 months my Quest 2 is having problems (only lasts 90 minutes where a couple of months ago it was over 2 hours, right Touch is having all kind of bugs with buttons registering without being pressed etc and support’s resolution is “factory reset” - which works for about 2-3 days before the issues return).

So if the Pico lasts 2 years, it’s done better than my Quest 2. In fact it would have done better than my original Quest, Rift CV1 and Index - all of which had to be replaced under warranty in the first year.

I use the Quest wirelessly with Virtual Desktop, and that’s how I’d use Neo 4. The scenery isn’t as sharp as with Index, but it’s sharp enough (and should be better with Pico), and while FoV isn’t everything for me, a bit more than Quest 2 has would be nice - and the comfort looks miles better.

So yes, I’ll be getting one, though it will have to wait until early next year due to other financial commitments. I might just sell my Q2 and CV1 (and a few of my amateur radio bits) and buy one sooner

Good writing, and I feel similar. I still own the CV1 from 2016 (or 2015?) and before the DK2. I didn’t get a chance to upgrade from that point. My CV1 still working pretty fine. The Pico 4 seems to be what I was waiting for. My only concern is PC VR through streaming. Some video make me fill it’s not mature yet. MRTV youtuber made a video about Pico 4 and MSFS and it’s conclusion was not good. Good for all the rest but not for MSFS. He used Virtual Desktop and also the USB cable. Not sure why it could be different than Quest 2.

In any case, the price and all reviews are very good. I will also go this way. Now, saying that, the Quest 3 seems on it’s way, not sure if I need to wait (again) or take the plunge!

Unexpectedly, I have one arriving today - seems Amazon are shipping them early - I will report back :+1:

I currently have a Quest 2 and a Reverb G2 - all MSFS related activity done with the G2 so I should be able to give a balanced review. I find Sebasian’s (MRTV) reviews a little scatty and not particularly helpful on the Pico 4 so far

It will be interesting to hear about the image quality - from what I understand the wireless connection doesn’t have enough bandwidth to drive that full resolution, so there will have to be some lossy compression taking place.

Please do let us know. I was a bit surprised when I saw MRTV comparing it to the G2. I don’t think that’s it’s target at all - should have compared it to Quest 2 (I know he does in some other vids, but not with flight sims).
We also have to remember - as pointed out on MRTV - that the software is likely to improve. Might be worth waiting a while, depending on the initial experiences, if it’s not yet quite up to snuff.

@CodeLoran69 - I thought about Quest 3, too, but that wouldn’t give me the break from Meta. It’s not about data mining for me, it’s about desperately trying to shove my face into their social VR agenda - literally! Maybe even if it’s better I’ll go with the Neo 4 and accept a lesser experience than Quest 3, it wouldn’t be the first time I took that kind of route intentionally.

So the Pico 4 arrived, quick set-up and software update. Feels different to wear than what I am used to - very light and also very small so the nosepiece touches your nose (tried the glasses spacer but couldn’t get on with it). I think it’s something I will get used to and overall very light and comfortable to wear, I feel the mask cushion will soften quite quickly.
Bear in mind I only have the G2 and Q2 to compare - never tried anything else. The picture quality is excellent, very rich and deep colours and the interface is just like Q2 home.
Downloaded Virtual Desktop and fired up MSFS 2020. First impressions are excellent, picture quality is very crisp, clear with ‘deeper’ colours - a better picture than my G2 in my opinion. Steam VR was running the resolution at 3800 x 3800 and performance was excellent.

Tried wired streaming with a ‘for purpose’ usb cable using the wired streaming app. Resolution very poor - so still seems a work in progress.

However, in Virtual desktop I get a crackly ‘glitch’ every few seconds so there is still some work to be done. Don’t have time to experiment any more for a day or two but overall impressions very positive - a definite step up in my opinion from both the G2 and Q2 in terms of picture quality and comfort. Oh and the controllers are capacitive and excellent.

Better than G2? That is surprising:) I will get my Pico 4 tomorrow and will check it out with my i9 12900k/RTX 3090 PC. I have both Quest 2 and G2 from before.

With Quest 2 I get “playable” result with wired connection but way too blurry with Wi-Fi . G2 on the other hand….excellent  So this will be interesting to check out.

I just did a re-install of Win11 so I don’t have the Oculus software on my PC now. Do I need that with Pico 4 to get virtual desktop to work? Or just the PC virtual desktop software?

According to the guy on MRTV, there’s a Virtual Desktop specifically for the Neo 4 - should be in their app store (which probably means paying again - I had to buy it twice as well, for Index and for Oculus as was).
