Pimax Crystal smart smoothing not longer avilable in Pimaxplay tool

For the dev team, the lessons learned (through discussions with Virtual Desktop and Valve devs) were:

  • Update to latest Nvidia Encoder SDK
  • Use nvEncGetEncodePresetConfigEx() instead of nvEncGetEncodePresetConfig()

And more generally my 2c are upgrade from NvEncode to NVOFA, it’s a much better motion estimation engine and has many advantages (though this is a more significant effort).

Pimax should just hire mbucchia to fix a problem they have been working on for years and seem to can’t address. Smart smoothing has been broken since Piplay ver 1.14, and even that version was sketchy. I have been all over the threads on this issue with the same answer, “Our engineers are looking into it.”

New Nvidia driver update yesterday improving VR with DLSS 4.5. Wow! Its a very good improvement. Be sure to update DLSS Swapper and use preset M.

Also a new Pimax Play update today. I’m afraid to try it with my Crystal lol!

The latest Pimax Play v1.43.6 brings Smart Smoothing back, we’ve already sorted it out.

I’ve tried to update Pimax Play (1.43.4), but it says “Your client is the latest version”. How do I get it?

You can download it here:

Is the fix also implemented in PP2 beta?

Is this supposed to be shown for Crystal light also? If yes, than no, you did not bring it back.

Nope, only the public release version.

Yes, this feature is compatible with the OG Crystal, Light, and Super.

What I found out is, that the smart smoothing option is only shown, when you are using a Nvidia graphics card. Recently I switched from 7900XTX to RTX 4090. The option showed up after AMD driver DDU und installing the NVidia card. Maybe this was special to my system. Don’t know.
Whatever, it still produces artifacts and wobble so I don’t use it anyways.

If you’re using an AMD graphics card, this feature is not supported.

Thx, that makes sense but did not read about it anywhere
