If discussing a specific VR headset, please tag your post with the appropriate selection. Please add the msfs-2020 I have a question: where has the Smart Smoothing feature from the Pimax app Pi Tool gone? It was there last week.
The Smart Smoothing function is no longer available in the Pimax app Pi Tool.?
Smart smoothing also disappeared from my Pimax settings (Crystal Light). Maybe Pimax is phasing out this feature? At any rate, it didn’t seem to work so well.
Have just been using the latest driver 591.59 from 581.80 and the problem has come back again. Calvin, you say it is a GPU driver issue but have you made Nvidia aware of this so they can effect a fix?
Nvidia isn’t going to fix anything. They deprecated a bunch of API that many VR platforms used. The corresponding platform developers will be forced to use the newer API and update on their end.
One of the reasons I was so looking forward to my retirement from software engineering was to not deal with this sort of irritating stuff anymore. I pretty much felt that the software industry was largely like fashion clothing, as in things would be “in” for a while and then not at all, in which case you scrambled to make things work again while spending $$$$ to essentially maintain status quo…ugh!
Interesting. I see that there is a Pimax Play v2.0 in the pipeline, I wonder if a fix will be included in that if Nvidia will not be doing anything?
I don’t always use Smart Smoothing as it does have some pretty horrible effects on certain things but for some it may be a major item needed to get smooth graphics so Pimax will no doubt have to do something fairly promptly. I have started to play a bit more with the Nvidia Smoothing to see how that compares, we’ll see!
Smart smoothing is also not visible in the Pimax Play client with AMD drivers. I am using latest 25.12.1 driver version.
Does anybody know, if it is enough to set “lock to half framerate” and 72 Hz in the Pimax client, if I want to have smart smoothing with 36 frames rendered from the sim? What would “reprojection” with setting depth do in this scenario? How do you use that? I have a Pimax Crystal light. Reprojection does not seem to make any difference.
