Pimax Crystal without hub

The hub included with my Crystal stopped working. Now I get a low battery warning almost every flight. Which USB cable is used for charging and what kind of power brick do I need to keep the headset topped up? Now I am running a 2Amp USB charger on the USB2 plug, but the headset still drains.

Ditto for my hub, not long after purchase. Poor quality. What I’ve done is run a usb from the headset side port with a right angled connecter & velcro it to the DP cable. This goes into a normal phone charger. I’ve only got the PI usb3 connected to a powered hub & DP to the GFX, leaving the PI usb2 unconnected. This keeps it topped up nicely here.

I am going to send the hub back for a replacement, but I’d like to be able to fly in the meantime. I hooked it up like in the attached image. So the USB3 is also just for power? Strange that a 2 Amp 10W charger on the USB2 is not enough to keep it running. Would switching to the USB3 be enough, or do I need more amps or watts?

Alternatively, you can plug the side USB-C port into a power bank or charger. However, this is only a temporary solution.

Alternatively to what? Having the USB2 plugged into a charger, and the USB3 plugged into the motherboard does not keep the headset charged. Do I need more amps or watts? Why would plugging the same charger into the side of the headset make a difference?

I’m not using the usb2 of the Pi.

Pi usb3 into a powered hub with on/off switch available
Pi DP into GFX
usb c into side port of Pi headset
Pi usb2 unused and not connected.

About 5W comes via USB 3 and 2.3W via USB 2. These values are resulting from the USB power limitations. The wattage is slightly above the specifications due to the voltage provided by Pimax hub being slight above the nominal USB 5V.

Headset won’t charge up if the cables are plugged directly into the motherboard.
So you will need to connect a usb-c to side port from a powerbank or charger.

Or you need to buy some other powered hub. No need to go crazy on the max wattage, the USB 3 and 2 combined are limited to 7.5W.
