Pimax Light erratic and locked tracking

I just got the Pimax Lite. Works fine in the beginning of flight but after few minutes starts jumping in and out of the cockpit - mainly in vertical direction. Then tracking gets “locked” in lean in/out direction. When I move my head forward the whole cockpit moves with me - I don’t get closer to the instruments. Or sometimes the movement gets locked in all directions - like a stationary view moving in sync with me headset.

Also, sometimes I hear USB dis/re-connect sound

Anybody ever had similar issues?

sometimes the headset locks tracking in all directions still in the initial pimax environment (space scene)

I also get this a lot of times

Some things to try if you haven’t already:

In your room settings choose the seated option.

Make sure there is plenty of light in the room (coming from behind, illuminating whatever is in front of you).

Make sure whatever is in front of you has some “texture and contrast”, not a plain blank wall (so the camera has something to sense movement against).

Try a different USB.

Try a different refresh rate (and check the box to lock the frame rate to 1/2 the refresh rate). I think 90 Hz is a good one to start with.

Update anything not already on the latest version (Pimax Play, video card driver, etc.)

Hope you get the problem worked out. I’ve only been using the PCL for a week and while I don’t have any of your issues, I do sometimes get a flash (like a strobe or lightning) and occasionally my wireless mouse doesn’t want to flip a switch or rotate a knob in the cockpit. I do use OpenXR Toolkit with it.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I’ve tried it all. Nothing seems to make a difference. The error about sensors not tracking is particularly annoying since it comes up most of the time I try to connect the headset to PC. Makes troubleshooting so much more difficult.

It’s probably important to mention that I’m using MSFS 2020.
I just noticed that your thread is tagged 2024.
There are plenty of comments about VR problems in the new sim, so your issues may just come down to that.

I’ll mention one more thing however…
Not sure if the “SOP” that I use makes a difference, but just in case…

  1. Start the Pimax Play software with headset unpowered.
  2. Power the headset (mine is plugged into a switchable outlet).
  3. Start MSFS

Are you using the lighthouse faceplate by chance? I found the lighthouse faceplate tracking to be very poor compared to other lighthouse tracked VR headsets. Specifically I had an issue where it would frequently lose tracking and freak out sending my head out of the cockpit and stuff like that. Ended up returning the faceplate (twice!) and used inside-out tracking instead.

No, I’m using inside-out tracking.

I don’t have any lighthouses. Just a standard pimax light out the box. It simply doesn’t connect. Well, actually it kind of does in the way that the app sees it but sensors can’t connect message is displayed and a pop up window saying it’s not connected to USB3 even though it is. I tried blue USB3 and red USB3.2. Yesterday I managed to connect it twice and played for few minuets before losing tracking. Today it didn’t work at all. I tried hundreds of times (at least that’s what if feel like). When it did connect yesterday I kept hearing USB disconnect sounds. Now it’s almost like it’s bricked

I guess you’ll have to open a ticket with Pimax… and then begin the waiting game.

Hopefully you get it resolved without too much time and effort. :man_shrugging:

I have this issue too - Crystal LIght (not steam). No problems in other games like DCS or X-Plane, so specific to MSFS 2024. Similar to symptoms of running out of VRAM and loading too much junk/swapping memory. Frame rate to zero and floating around (mostly vertical) as I approached a larger airport with more scenery… Testing unloading all community mods, reducing all sorts of VR graphic settings until I find it. Win 11 i7-14700 3.4GHz 32GB
RTX4080Super. See if I find anything…

Update: It’s not MSFS2024 VR Graphic settings. I put everything on low (with no community mods) and it still did it. As the NVidia Driver updated Jan 30, I’m going to try to roll back one version (I think December).

Update and possible solution: I downgraded the NVidia driver to v566.36 dated 12-5-2024 and the problem completely disappeared. Was able to ramp textures etc. back up to High and Ultra no problem.

Found this simple item on VR Flight Sim Guy’s 2024 Discussion thread:

Under VR graphics → Fauna OFF.

Solved all my problems. Currently running NVidia 572.42 (2/13/25). I also did his DLSS swapper stuff and got better results, but regardless, it was the Fauna that stopped this issue. If you’ll notice, the problem hits when you look DOWN toward the earth, even looking at the cockpit floor. Look up and the problem goes away.

Has anyone been getting any chromatic aberration with the Crystal light? I just bought a Pimax to try and get out of zukerbergs meta ecosystem (the quest pro)

Trying to fly a G1000 equipped 172. I was getting massive amount of aberrations below 12.4 degrees Vertical (so right at the top of the PFD and MFD, you start to see the text and mode boxes become smudged
