Pimax Play Questions

Hello, (Dream Air Slam)

I would like some clarification on a couple things because I have received conflicting answers from multiple sources:

Quad Views On or Off in Pimax Play?

  • MSFS 24 has Dynamic Foveated Rendering in VR settings. I have DFR turned ON in the game. I have Quadviews in Pimax Play turned Off. Should I turn it On in Pimax Play for best headset/game performance?

Central Priority Rendering On or Off in Pimax Play?

  • Currently, I play with CPR off in Pimax Play, but it likes to turn itself on after I change resolution settings. I always need to double check before starting the game to make sure its off. Should I have this turned On in Pimax Play for best heaset/game preformance?

I have seen a few youtubers leaving this stuff on in Pimax Play, some with it turned off, AI told me that quadviews needs to be on, but priority rendering should be off. Can someone clear this up please. Thank you!

I have a Pimax Crystal Super. I currently have Quadviews on along with the in game DFR on. I have CPR off.

Now I also don’t know what is right or what is the wrong solution. All I know is what is presently working for me best and I found those settings seem to be the optimum. I might add that this conclusion was only reached after many hours and many many expletives.

If you do find differently do post and let us know so that we too can give it a try.

I messed around with it last night. I have been chopping FOV off to see if I could improve the preformance (which i was able to take about 10 off the vert and the horzontal and still see the full picture), and saw that if FOV is reduced in Pimax Play there is a warning pop up in Pimax Play that says DFR does not work if FOV is cropped.

I then went into MSFS and turned off DFR and my fps went to ■■■■, so my conclusion is that DFR does not need to be on in Pimax Play, but absolutly needs to be on in MSFS.

I am still unsure on the CPR though. It still likes to turn itself on and so I continue to make sure its off before I start the game.

Can confirm.. many expletives during VR tuning

Quad views being on/off in PP makes no difference for MSFS24 since it has its own implementation that runs independently.

Not sure what central priority rendering even is! Will need to look that up.

EDIT: Oh it’s just FFR apparently. Obviously turn that off then if using DFR.

I too drew the same conclusion as yourself. However upon further tweaking I thought that I had a slightly better result with Quad Views on as well as MSFS DFR. I believe this possibly has something to do with the eyetracking of the headset.

In desperation I asked chatgpt and the response it gave me might have confirmed what I was experiencing. Quote from chatgpt:

The important point is that MSFS’s foveated rendering and Quad Views are cumulative rather than redundant.

Think of it like this:

MSFS rendering
        ↓
MSFS Foveated Rendering
        ↓
OpenXR
        ↓
Quad Views DFR
        ↓
Crystal Super display

They’re reducing work at different stages of the rendering pipeline

Whether this is just a crock of **** I don’t know. I did though in the end leave my Quad Views on balanced and MSFS DFR to 0.4 to 0.5 depending on what I’m flying. I can mostly get 45 fps on most airliners at most third party airports. 9800x3d RTX5080 64GB RAM (purchased before the price went stupid)

Interesting, ok, ill go back and try it and see if I notice any real difference. Im on a 5070ti, 14900k. I also want to start messing around with the sboys3 driver, wondering if via EVO, I can turn on DFR on in EVO and then crop fov with the sboys3 driver. The only thing I dont like about EVO is it doesnt have lock to half fps implemented yet, but I maybe able to use Steam VR settings to lock fps.
