Pixelated and grainy clouds are back starting with 1.14.5.0

It’s not fixed in 1.21.17.0 .
I took the exact same settings as the before last screenshot above, clouds on Ultra:

Looks more like a volcanic eruption!

This is a very insightful post.

There was a short video which compared clouds in SU4 with clouds in SU5 close up. Unfortunately I cannot find it anymore. Does anyone know where I may find said video?

Recently my clouds have become pixelated and grainy again. Tried rolling back on my amd drivers but that hasn’t fixed it. Checked my config files and they are still set to 0 in film grain and sharpen. I made that change many months ago. And all of sudden my clouds look bad. Live weather and preset clouds.

this is horrible, completely ruins immersion :frowning:

There are stil there these pixelated clouds unfortunaly :frowning:

I too see pixelated/grainy clouds on almost all flights. For me it started with SU5 and hasn’t really improved with subsequent updates.

sadly grainy clouds are still there with SU6 and also SU7. see my youtube video with SU6:

you can see them in the cockpit view, as well on the outside view.
5800X, RX6800 (mostly high or ultra settings, clouds on ultra), 32Gb RAM running on 2K res., render scaling about 90-100%.

now i have a RX6900XT and running 4K, nearly all on ultra and they are still grainy.
we want to have back the old quality of the clouds, before the xbox implementation. the clouds back then looked better on my GTX1070 than they are looking know on my RX6900XT.
it’s really a pity.

please vote up this thread. dont know why it isnt already on their buglist which they publish, cause this thread has already more votes, than some other bugs on their buglist.

PS: dont get me wrong. i really like MSFS, it so much better then the sims we had before (altough there is still progress needed, but the downgrade of the clous is one of the biggest things i really regret)

EDIT: oh and tweaking the FilmGrain or Sharpen never changed the situation for me

I still have this issue as well. Let’s hope for the next update(s) the team focuses on bugs and performance issues as Jorg mentioned in one of the Q and A’s. I for one don’t really care for the world updates or additional content updates right now when the core platform still needs work. I do feel that the MSFS team is committed to doing that. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have both a PC with a GTX1070 and an XBoxS. I don’t see grainy clouds on the GTX1070 but I often see them on the XBS. It’s not just an ‘old clouds vs new clouds’ thing. There’s more to it imo.

This became an issue in SU5 and never went away. Please keep this thread alive and get our clouds beautiful again. I don’t even feel like flying with this mess.
Thick storm clouds look like volcanic ash.
Edges of clouds are super pixelated and leave a clear and very pixelated trail when you fly past them.
Some clouds are so pixelated they resemble a screen door.

Update your gpu drivers

Jacked up pixelated clouds is not a driver issue. Don’t waste time updating drivers if you don’t want to.

So why don’t I suffer from this problem?

So, why do I and many other do suffer this with up to date drivers?

I have no Idea … what resolution and renderscale are you using? Are your textures set ultra and are you using any filters or have you changed any of the UserCfg ones? Have you considered using DSR?

Oh, I am really happy that you do not see those bad clouds! Just… there are 522 posts in this branch at this moment. We checked all the opportunities a regular user can check. For some of us, it started after update 5, some of us had this from the beginning. It looks like you are the only user so far who does not experience this problem.

I would also say mine are grainy and I have everything on Ultra and a scale of 130%. I don’t know what " good clouds " look like can someone post pictures of their unpixelated clouds so I can compare them to mine?
