Plagued with CTDs. How can I find root cause

Step one is to remove everything. If the CTDs go away then reload them one at a time until the CTDs return. It can sometimes be a specific combination of adds or maybe a corrupted file in one of them. Best way to narrow it down is to do as I suggested.

If the CTDs persist when the folder is empty, make sure you do the same with free standing software that you are using as well. TrackIR, Simconnect, FSUIPC etc, all can cause issues in some cases. Turning OFF all the extra stuff will help you determine if it something with the base sim or an add causing your grief.

If it is the base sim then I suggest taking a read through this thread… There is some really good info that has helped a lot of people get stabilized. Be ruthless, but also keep an open mind. Sometimes it can be the simplest thing, other times a duck soup of multiples.

Depending on your situation it may even be because you always fly in the same area and are running into one of those “location bugs” in the sim itself.

Since August there have been a number of us in the community that have been trying to nail down the “easy” fix. I can tell you, we haven’t found one. There have been so many fixes that work for one user and not another. It seems that everyone’s CTD is different.

Some will tell you there is nothing you can do, “The sim is broken. Wait for Asobo. It is their problem, not yours.” Ignore them. Way too many users that have started by banging their heads on their desks have found their solution to accept that it is never a system thing, just a buggy program. Yes, MSFS has bugs and some cause CTD, but not every time. Asobo has fixed many of those.

There are lots of VERY knowledgeable users here that will be happy to help you too. Just need to be open to the journey. Sometimes frustrating but usually satisfying in the end.
