Play around with reshade filter / nvidia freestyle shaders!

So do we not have access to the shaders? I used to adjust them manually in the files in P3D and have searched for them in the MSFS files and cannot find anything, but maybe someone has run across them or know how to access them. There is a shaders folder in MSFS, but in contains a .PAK file that I have no idea how to open.

I have the Steam version of MSFS and the file is located in Steam/steamapps/common/MicrosoftFlightSimulator.

two things:

CALIBRATED monitor helps. Most things look great to me.

and videos to compare against are often color graded, enhancing the saturation past real life. because it always looks nicer that way.

I have no complains about undersaturation or alike. But midday haze looks too greenish/teal to me. It’s nowhere this green in real life. Light blue - yes, not green.

For us Store users this file is readable (after some tweaks) but there is no way to write/change it, even if we had a way to read/chagne the .PAK file… I will check if this can be unpacked somehow. Thanks for the location info!

What tweaks do you do so you could read it? Maybe I can do the same on the Steam version.

For steam you dont need as i know. You should be able to read and write in MSFS folder.

Windows Store version has this restriction as it is installed in spoecial folder inside program files.

Agreed, my screen has to be calibrated, i just tone the warmth down a bit for gaming so that the white balance is correct. I don’t really like enhancing colours, it looks too cartoony.

I am doing the opposite…Based on real pictures, i think we need desaturation in many cases…

What filter is Lumasharp under? I have it in my Ansel folder but its not showing up as it’s own filter.

Does anybody remember where the suggested presets for ANSEL are please? I have a problem where my horizon is so stark white, it’s almost blinding. This also has the negative effect of making distant scenery appear stark white as well. I’ve calibrated my monitor, and set my colors correctly through the Nvidia Control Panel.

Many thanks,

Andrew.

it´s just called “sharpening” as I can remember. I now own the Steam Version, so I can use ReShade as usual !

which ANSEL filters do you actually use, you can change some things in the settings !!

Arnie,

A few weeks back, some presets for Ansel were listed here on this forum, I cannot seem to locate them at the moment.

I am also running the STEAM version of the sim. You say that you are using ReShade? I have not had a chance to look into this yet. Do you know if there are any presets available, or if it affects frame rates? I will look into this today, because I have a limited system available to me.

If I can darken down the textures a little, and remove that white band, I will be really happy.

Andrew.

I wouldn’t want to fly without freestyle anymore.
The default look is too bland and washed out.
Freestyle is able to mitigate to some extent.

Hello Andrew !

I honestly can’t remember the presets and I can’t find anything myself!
Yes ReShade is actually very easy to install and use (actually, but ANSEL is easier)
And, yes, there are several profiles and settings - own a 2080Ti and don’t really have any FPS loss, with ReShade or ANSEL !
My Ansel folder looks like this, I use several effects:

just to mention - at the moment not ALL the effects listed here work !
Here is a tutorial https://www.techarp.com/games/reshade-geforce-experience/ how to use certain ReShade effects with ANSEL, there is also a download available:
https://international-gfe.download.nvidia.com/GFE/GFEClient/ReShadeFilters/v1.0/Curated_ReShade_Filters.zip
I hope I could help a little bit with this !
BR, Arnie !
