So as far as I’m aware this isn’t anything new, but what is the solution to this? I can recalibrate the altimeter all flight and still get moaned at. Is this a bug or am I actually doing something wrong? Is it platform specific? I’m on PC if so.
I’m loving the game but this in particular annoys me.
If you are above a certain altitude, you have to set your altimeter to 29.29 inches HG (which is the standard altimeter setting). The altitude depends on the country you are flying in (i think, sorry – i’m sort of a beginner myself).

I tend to get this when flying anywhere that doesn’t have 18,000ft as its transition altitude, as ATC appears to forget, or not care, that not everywhere is the same as the US.
So, for example, if the transition altitude is 6,000ft and you are above that altitude and below 18,000ft,with STD selected, ATC gets your altitude increasingly wrong the further your environment is from an atmospheric pressure of 29.92inHg.
Hopefully, this and other ATC issues will be fixed, at least by the time FS2024 appears.

Ah right okay then, that sucks. But st least I’m not the only one who gets it lol. Ironic you mention about the U.S, I’m currently halfway across the Atlantic flying to JFK!
It would be nice if they could get a fix done before the next game (the ATC seems rather basic), but if not then I can wait. It’s not game breaking, just a minor annoyance.
Yup, just don’t switch to STD until above 18,000ft and make sure your baro is set to the right value.
I think you’ve probably hit the nail square on the head with “the ATC seems rather basic”, but I think it’ll probably need a pretty comprehensive rewrite to get it anywhere near, so FS2024 will probably be the best chance. In the meantime, Beyond ATC looks like it might be a promising alternative, when it comes out of course.

I’ll remember that for my next flight, I’m in need of some sleep
but cheers bud, I appreciate the help!
You’re right about that, hopefully it’s it’s up on the priorty list bc if done properly it could be a great feature! I very much look forward to the next instalment, always had a soft spot for Microsoft and their simulators
The sim has always treated the whole world as being part of the US; it’s borne out by the ATC voices and the transition altitude etc.
The “please expedite” bug had been A Thing for quite a while, but they did seem to have fixed it. Funnily enough, now it’s started again I find it’s only other traffic that gets told off, never me.

I do use the AI pilot for long stretches when no major input is required from me. Could that be a part of it perhaps?
Who knows? By definition, bugs are hard to find.
Having re-read your op. and read all the above, I would like to clarify a bit----what you stated…’ Please expedite…’ means ATC wants you to climb/descend faster. You can do this in several ways–what I usually do is go the the Vertical setting on the autopilot and increase the feet per second in the direction I want to go, i.e. up or down. If ATC is telling you that you are a few hundred feet above or below your assigned altitude it probably means, in the USA, that you did not reset your altimeter to Standard 29.92 as you passed 18,000 feet as you climbed to altitude, or did not reset it to local pressure as you descended thru 18,000 feet.
I hope this is clear.

Ohh right okay, I see. Sorry for any confusion! That makes a lot more sense now. I’ll be following this to a T on my next journey. Thank you for the clarification and explanation, I’ve not always been able to decipher aviation terms haha
You’re welcome. Glad you understood.

It has also become very clear that the AI pilot is pretty rubbish. It can’t stay at assigned attitudes whatsoever without being a few hundred feet above or below the right level. It is incapable of landing either lol. Think I will be avoiding it entirely from now on
That is most definitely a wise idea, it made me crash just outside of JFK this morning. I wasn’t impressed!

It is obvious by now that MS will not fix this. The next time you are at the proper altitude in an IFR flight, especially using AI pilot and ATC tells you to expedite your climb/descent just turn real weather off. It screws up your weather but will get ATC to shut up as the aircraft will find the proper altitude. Now MS, please fix this, it is annoying.
