Problem is not the texture itself (on the right you can also see cloud, but thats fine) issue is the Draw distance.
Look at distant textures, they are extremely blurry. Trees are loading only in ridiculously small radius around the plane (look at horizon, no trees at all) And buildings? Same story.
I understand bigger radius of textures, trees, or buildings eats more FPS. But we JUST want slider or option in UserCFG for changing LOD of mentioned things… If they Wish, followed with big red warning “This will affect your performance.”
Hey people. I am new here but I am reading all of these lod, terrain, blurry textures issues in this forum. Unfortunately I also have this problem. I have tried literally every single fix attempt have been posted on this forum. None of them has fixed it.
So what I realized is that, sharpness is the enemy of the lod. Why is that? Because it makes "must be blurry " areas sharp. Blurry areas should be blurry because there are a lot of loss of detail. But when we force the game with sharpness, those blurry areas become sharp. And we go mad on this. First versions of MSFS 2020 didn’t have any sharpen post process. So we were enjoying the scenery. (It is my theory)
But also, there is a real lod problem we are facing. Some of scenery, when the sun light is on the spot, looks really uglt. Mountains for example. I am doing Alaska bush trip right now and you should see this, mountains and little peaks look incredibly bad. Even I have killed sharpness in usercfg.opt. Still ugly. First releases of this sim was beautiful. But Asobo denies it. But we say there is a problem. How can we say this if there is not really a problem?
I don’t think it is a Teredo problem or any other network related problem. It clearly is a rendering problem. I have contacted Asobo via ticket and what did they tell me? Standar procedures, pick a server, enable bing data bla bla bla. Can you imagine they do this? They really answer us with that kind of sarcastic replies.
So I, as a customer, want the old advertised scenery. This issue goes a false advertising really fast.
I can attest that it is not your fault. It is also not your graphics card, or your PC. It’s not your internet connection, it’s not your cache, it’s just a bug that needs to be fixed. I’ve tried Flight Simulator on a i9 macbook pro with a top AMD card, I’ve tried it on my desktop with a 3080, I’ve tried it with a 3090. Nothing makes a difference.
That melted look is just an issue that for some reason Asobo doesn’t want to acknowledge at the moment. It’s been going on for a while, and it’s strange. The LOD for photogrammetry should be re-prioritized not just based on distance as a radius but also height of the object. In other words, taller objects should operate at a higher LOD than smaller objects, rather than just one LOD to rule them all. I think that would help. It’s really annoying because as you fly close up it looks fine, but then you turn around and fly away it starts to degrade. Best solution, fly in Europe where there is less photog, which really isn’t a solution at all because many of us w want to fly in and out of Boston, Vegas, New York, LA, Seattle Chicago.
Anyway, not sure if this adds anything to the conversation, but I felt bad you were blaming yourself. Will let me assure you, it’s not your fault. It’s not your fault, it’s not your fault, it’s not your fault, it’s not your fault…
The whole Photogrammetry Issue is a real bummer currently, I have all the same issues as most of you mentioned. I’m really glad some Screenshots and mentions of the Chicago, IL Metro Area have been posted as it is a huge disappointment for me being my Native City!! I think the issue is very general as I have these problems on a very high-end system.

Who cares about real 747 pilots or any airliners for that matter?
If all you fly in the sim is airliners then all you need is a good cockpit and average landing and airport scenery. You simply need what was in FSX and prior versions.
Those of us who much prefer GA aircraft and seeing the world below and around us want photogrammetric scenery.
As for what is already in FS2020, come on Microsoft there is more to the world than the USA which has dozens of photogrammetric cities, the vast majority of which we have never heard of.
What does the UK get Portsmouth and Southampton. Where is London, York, Chester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool. We even have an 800’ Tower in Blackpool and is it seen, no.
Hello All. I seem to have a bit of trouble with my Photogrammetry… I cant seem to get it to turn on again, it says it’s on, but it is still only showing autogen everything. I’m at a loss. the only thing I have not done is uninstall MSFS. It never tells me the amount of downloaded scenery when I turn it off and save, and when I turn it back on and save. I recall it used to do that. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance!
Lately, I’ve checked on Google Earth for photogrammetry coverage the major Latin American cities and their entire metropolitan areas, namely Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santiago, and Buenos Aires.
I’ve just got terrified by the quality and the extent to which it stretches out towards their unfathomable suburbs.
They have, quite a while ago. This item is near the top of the list.
You can access this in the regularly scheduled “Development Update” found on this forum.(Community -News & Announcements)
Here is the latest as of Jan 7th, see item #4.
The problem is deep. Look at the following pictures from MSFS own happy new year announcement. I think people should stop blaming themselves, the internet connection or the LOD. Its a fact that currently in this sims sections of buildings are spikes and trees are blocks of green. MS needs to fix it, and I think in time they will.
