Yesterday we updated to version SU2 and just now we had another 3.6 GB update… the VRAM problem persists… I have a 5070 ti and my consumption is 98% - 100% of the graphics… Honestly, I don’t know if it’s the latest Nvidia driver or the simulator itself… Please, don’t release new releases without fixing these serious problems!!
100% VRAM usage isn’t bad in itself. What’s relevant is how the performance is now. Do you have performance issues or is it smooth?
VRAM usage 100% is bad. Because that will trigger the low FPS.
Just like you don’t want 100% RAM usage, the system will slow to a halt.
It’s not like GPU usage, where you want to get all the performance you paid for.
You want more VRAM than a game needs.
And 16 GB should be enough. The ideal spec according to Microsoft is 12GB for MSFS2024.
So this is in fact a problem. One that needs solving.
Reduce your settings. You always want your vram usage to be close to maxed out to get the best experience.
If my OS starts to reach 100% RAM usage, I start to close some apps.
I don’t push my computer to handle more than it is capable of.
If a single app is causing my computer’s RAM to reach 100% usage and that app has settings to reduce the RAM usage, then I change that app’s settings so I don’t hit 100% RAM usage!
You do not want to max out vram. You can lower the settings, but the vram is an issue in msfs2024 regardless. GPU usage going to 100% is fine, but not the vram. On top of that, they added a message saying something along the lines of “vram usage exceeded….” Don’t remember the exact message now. If you handle vram correctly, you will never exceed the available vram. You will simply have bad performance. But you certainly do not exceed it ! This definitely is an issue and needs fixing.
There is nothing to close for me in Flight Simulator
Texture resolution is already at Low. With TLOD 100 this already happens.
With a 4080 this shouldn’t be needed. The ideal spec is 12GB VRAM and i have 16 GB. The ideal spec is not based on Low settings.
I have 16GB and no longer face FPS drops due to VRAM. SU3 running like butter on my 9070XT
That’s good for you, but a lot of people have issues.
MSFS2020 had 0 mentions of VRAM problems on these forums.
MSFS2024 has a lot of mentions of VRAM issues on these forums which indicates an issue.
The graphical fidelity difference between 2020 and 2024 is not big enough to explain or justify these issues. Therefore this is something that need addressing. Seems pretty logical to me.
I have pretty much the same experience, except I have a 4070ti with 12GB of VRAM. I’ll regularly get close to, or run out of VRAM, this is with texture resolution on medium, and I’ve even turned it to low and experienced the same thing.
The sad part is though, is 2024 performs much better, utilizes my GPU better, and I get better FPS than 2020, as long as my VRAM doesn’t run out.
Yep it’s a lot worse than SU2. I even lowered some of my settings. I’m using a 4080 Super. Panning the camera results in stutters. SU1 was the last time I had good performance!
Something is definitely off because it’s happening and my vram usage is around 10.6!
Update: It’s my 5800X3D. Very high cpu usage.
I tested the SU3 beta with ReBAR both on and off. Performance with it enabled has definitely improved compared to earlier builds, but it’s still not quite where it should be.
My recommendation stays the same: turn it off before you start dialing back your settings. If that doesn’t make a difference, then go ahead and optimize further.
As long as memory access in the sim isn’t properly tuned to take advantage of large BAR windows, forcing it can still cause inconsistent frame pacing or VRAM-related stutters under load.
With ReBAR off, the sim runs noticeably smoother for me. Until they implement proper support, I’ll leave it that way.
That’s SU3 beta.
Hi, there is general performance issue I have found since 1.4.18.0. I log frametimes etc on screen in VR and the CPU rdr time is up by about 25% since 1.4.20.0 first flight. I would check this but less than 24hs of final SU2 launch and the first new beta doesn’t really give time to test??
I’d love to report this but all guides point to the usual place and nobody says where actually that is!
I get VRAM warnings when I don’t have one but again, would say VRAM use has also gone up and I also find when settings are reduced, it never comes down or FPS up yo reflect this. I’m running a RX9070 which was brilliant for MSFS 2024 until yesterday!
What could fix this temporarily:
Give us the option to set different LOD settings depending on the altitude.
For example:
Below 100 feet / 50 TLOD
Above 1000 feet / 200 TLOD
Above 10000 feet / 400 TLOD
This will dramatically reduce VRAM usage, especially at airports since you dont need 400 TLOD on the ground. I know we have dynamic settings but that isnt exactly the point. We need TLOD settings in relation to altitude.
When i change my TLOD settings depending on altitude, my VRAM problem is basically gone.
I found the solution, bought more VRAM
A reminder of the rules. There’s third party tools that make modifications to the sim core files to adjust settings on the fly according to user preferences and automatic detection. You can’t discuss them on this forum.
my setup

Available Virtual Memory 28.7 GB

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

I’m not sure we have a vram problem
I can only run medium to get everything in green.
It may be an overall problem.
I am able to run 2020 at ultimate and still get over 100fps
We shouldn’t have to worry about flying or even opening the simulator wondering if its gonna CTD or FPS Drop or Framegen bug its a bit stupid as no matter what settings you have the VRAM does not move granted with Fenix and BATC i use plus GSX and Airports etc yea im borderline using full 12 gb of 4070ti keep getting the warning about VRAM so i tried lowering settings and nothing moved stayed the same so theres got be a problem if setting are not even changing the VRAM and if you hit that limit of VRAM you get the FrameGen Bug so you cant win unless this gets sorted ASAP or some sort of acknowledgment that there is a VRAM and Performance issues since day one…ive not been able to do a single landing for over a week due to this issue and others that have been created through these updates
Just to note i have 7600x
4070ti 32gbRAM
so i should be able to use medium settings no problem
Why are we blaming Asobo because you have a 12GB VRAM GPU ? Lower your settings.
