People who use a 100% vanilla install are as effected as people who install mods. If you care to do a search, read up on last month’s AIRAC update where the same thing happened. And in some cases, people HAVE messed with core files (folks using the Longitude mod which requires editing core files) didn’t also have to re-download the patch after the AIRAC update.
Ah ok that’s weird because last AIRAC update I didn’t have to download the extra 25 GB and also haven’t modified the fs-base folder. Now I had modified the folder so I thought it had something to do with it. Sorry for the misinformation haha
I also think so, I installed the autumn textures and these are in the fs Base folder. That could be the reason. If I decide for myself when the update is done. Then I could change it again beforehand. Stupid!!!
Almost any modified file in Official folder will attract huge downloads at each patch as the game thinks a lot of data is corrupt or changed. Make sure if you are using hard mods (mods of original files not mods in community folder) that you use a mod manager and disable them just before hitting the update button. I used OvGME (normally for DCS but is good for MFS too) before for the vegetation mods. Not that the trees are moded via community folder is not necessary for me anymore.
Also I have gigabit optic fibre and I cannot complain of download speeds. Usually they are really fast. I also have my PC connected through gigabit UTB cable just to be sure phones, tablets, connected tooth brush in the house and neighbor’s 5G connected fridge are not stealing bandwidth and then I blame Asobo or the next eclipse.
Same here. Simple 1GB update, but I was surely confused as I read the Release Notes while it was downloading and thought, “Wait… I already have all this stuff.” I voted this up mostly because it’s an obvious problem, even if it didn’t effect me.
This will never happen with a game that’s tied to online services. Ever. Not saying I like it, but it’s the way it is and there’s nothing anyone can do to change that, not even Asobo. When an update is pushed to the client, changes are made server side as well. Both versions have to be compatible with each other. If they’re not, things won’t work right.
I realize stuff doesn’t work right currently, but it has the potential to be a lot worse for clients who are out of synch with the server side.
Exactly. As hard as it is for some people to understand, MSFS is basically an MMO, despite the inability to actually interact with other real players outside of 1 limited scenario. You can’t even get past the main loading screen without logging into your XBox account, which in turn uses those credentials to link you up to the myriad of back end online services that MSFS needs to operate.
If the clients and server don’t match up, it has the potential to mess things up server side, which then in turn has the potential to affect the entire user base vs just a single client. That’s why updates are forced for ALL online games.
I got this game right on launch day and I have never gotten download speeds more than 6.5 Mbps till now. Either downloading the game completely from scratch, or while on the update screen, the downloads and the update process as a whole is a big mess. I have a connection of 60Mbps. Every other service I use, I get full download speeds. To put this into context, when you are updating this game via steam, the update is divided into a smaller chunk on steam itself while the remaining happens through the launcher of the game. Steam downloads its share at ~60Mbps. Then, the launcher starts up and it downloads its share at max 6.5 Mbps. I have tried every official and unofficial “fixes” for this but sadly none of them have worked. (My location is Nepal BTW). Also, the game still shows unusually high GPU usage while on the update screen.
It’s been almost one year since launch and yet I still want these two things to be fixed the most.
Currently downloading 22.63Gb of update and in two hours only got 17% of it, by the looks of the number of issues simmers are reporting here MS & Asobo may have possibly created an update that prompts a completely fresh install.
200Mb Internet connection that’s 25MB a second. I would not mind but this just ties up your PC. Why on earth was everything launched at the same time, ASOBO/MS you have go to sort this out, we cant keep having this every time there is an update.
Hey I have 1 Gbit Internet and the Servers from Microsoft are heavily overloaded with these many people downloading at the same Time. For me it is also slow but mine crashed and I didn’t see it directly. now I have to wait longer
