What if you never had a disk?
dunno ⦠a bug as such?
Yes, there are many reports of users with the digital only version being asked for a disk.
Hey everyone,
Another day another issue
.
Recently just built a computer and installed the sim with gamepass. I was able to install the game just fine after some finagling with Time Sync. Game ran great on my new build.
This morning woke up to the insert disc error. Went through the motions of trying to fix it as other have to no avail. I ended up uninstalling and redownloading the 2gb launcher. When I click play on Xbox, it loads the game up until the disc error completely bypassing the launcher installer.
Anyone have any input on this?
Best
Hey all, I was finally able to begin the Installation Manager. Iāve been trying to boot from the Game of the Year edition instead of the Standard.
I have also adjusted the 4 Xbox Settings in services to automatic.
Game Pass user. Recently I got the disc message. I tried everyoneās suggestions from reinstalling, time syncing, enabling Xbox services to automatic, and tried everything in the official help article. Even went as far as reinstalling Windows, resetting my router/internet settings, and testing vpn to see if itās a server issue.
I also notice on the Xbox app the non GOTY edition is still being listed and is still installable if you have Game Pass. Tried installing GOTY and still pops up with insert game disc message.
I have a new gaming laptop. On it I want to install the sim (MS Store version). But it does not work because I keep getting the error message āPlease insert discā. Iāve been trying to install it for two hours and it just wonāt work! I feel extremely ā ā ā ā ā ā ! How can a multi-billion company like Microsoft show such incompetence?
Edit:
And before someone gets here with the great idea to tell me to read this. I have already done that!

And you tried the suggestions there, like re-installing gaming services?
Itās possible you donāt have the license for MSFS installed, which is your entitlement to run the sim.
Hi PS244,
I got that message too , so I right clicked on the Microsoft Flight Simulator link under the start menu and selected the option to Run as Administrator. The game then loaded correctly.
Hope this gets you going!
Hello and thank you.
I had tried all that. Started from XBox Launcher, started from MS Store, started as Admin, logged out from Launcher and Store and logged in again, reinstalled the app 10x, checked if everything was installed (digital ownership etc.).
Nothing helped. After 50 startup attempts it suddenly worked. I guess since the gaming laptop is new, Windows 10 was not fully updated and after a needed update was installed, the error message disappeared.
There is no mention of updating Windows in the incompetent article I linked.
Wow, I admire your patience! Good news though, but obviously a big mission. All you have to do now is navigate the various sim updates!
It is mentioned if you click through to a link on the article you linked to, titled:
Microsoft Store - Download & Installation issues - Checklist

STEP 1. INSTALL PENDING UPDATES
- Click on Start (the Windows icon in the bottom left-hand side corner of your screen)
- Select Settings
- Stay on Windows UpdateGo to Update & Security
- Click the Check for Updates button.
- Wait until the verification is done
Looks like you need to follow those articles more closely.
I logged off the Xbox App in my pc and on the microsoft store, Restarted the pc, Relogged in and then it worked. Let us know if that helps.
Same Error had worked last night, i had restricted more DNS queries with Adguard / PiHole, needed to add the following REGEX to grant access back. YMMV.

I got it when I opened MSFS after a CTD a couple of days ago. I Quit as the pop-up instructs and then started MSFS again and it loads ok.
Iām adding my voice to this issue as well. I constantly get the insert disc error with my digital copy from the Microsoft store. In order to resolve the issue, I have to restart the PC and Run as administrator. Iāve seen numerous of these topics closed in this section for a problem that (apparently) continues to plaque many users. Thereās clearly a problem that needs to be properly addressed. Iāve gone through the troubleshooting and bookmarked the topic since itās so frequent. None of the suggestions are useful at all and do not resolve the issue. Itās unacceptable that a Microsoft game requires a system restart and elevated privilegeās on my system to run. This is so frustrating!
Apologies if you already checked this, but do you have this in your Library, in the MS Store:

To all those experiencing the āGame Discā issue: I know I can reproduce it every single time I want by leaving my firewall on before launching the game. I hope this helps in troubleshooting the issue.
I use GlassWire, which is basically Windows Firewall with a more practical āskinā. The executable for MSFS is obviously whitelisted, but that doesnāt help.
So I have to disable my firewall before launching the game or itās āinsert game discā. This has been the case since release.
You say its obvious, but do you know for sure? Have you checked?
Do you have handcrafted firewall rules, or did you allow the pop-up prompt to create defaults for you?
