I think Microsoft Flight Simulator should make landing for all aircraft more difficult and realistic. Currently, I feel like landing is too easy and forgiving. No matter my mistakes, my aircraft always lands safely every time no matter how bad my approach speed or angle is when I hit the runway or no matter how hard I hit the runway when I land. I would really like to see an improvement. Does anyone agree?
Agree, i voted!
Default setting are EASY - try setting the to MAX Realsitic
Check your difficulty settings, it sounds like you have them set on easy.
I tested it myself and there is a bug.
I have everything set to hard in the assistance menu and can hit the ground at over 1200fpm on the C172 without taking damage so I think at least some of the default aircraft have an issue. I’d call it a bug seeing crashes are supposed to be modeled, kind of, a black screen with text saying we crashed is not much of a model!
If I try a very hard landing on the Mooney it tells me I damaged the landing gear and exits the session so that aircraft works better.
If you turn on Developer Option, you can turn off Crash Detection.
The Mooney and Cessna have entirely different landing gear. That’s why you learn to fly in a Cessna because they can absorb student pilot landings. The Mooney not so much.
A really hard landing should set off the ELT .. and it can bleed over the radio (not simulated ??? )
I think next un important topic.
problem stays of set of reality of model and relevant control settings with sensitivity, dead zones. This problematic is very individual and post this as need to be solved/fixed is really missunderstanded. Starting feel that most important things are put after and after each of new not important things.
I agree. You don’t know if you are performing a good landing
Not for me. Set to max realistic, and nothing happens. Might be a bug
I agree. Landings are too easy and there doesn’t appear to be any type of ground effect. Unrealistic or very forgiving stall, limited bouncing, no ballooning down the runway if you’re going too fast etc. I was actually surprised when I flipped a tail-dragger after hitting the brakes when going too fast. Besides that, all the other landings have been completely uneventful.
This continues to be my #1 issue with this so-called flight simulator. Even on max realism, the landings are much too forgiving, allowing you to slam planes down like they are RC planes. But don’t touch the water with a wheel, the flight will end instantly. Go figure.
This is more of a sight-seeing simulator than a flight simulator.
If you are in DEV mode you may not have to turn off any crashes to get crashes !!
Has it occurred to you, or a lot of other people, that flying and landing a plane, in real life, is really not that difficult? That planes are not made out of plywood and can actually handle a bit of a bump on the runway?
This problem is tricky. Actually, a hard landing you’ve performed in MSFS could make you survive in the real world, but this sort of landing would make your aircraft badly damaged. The problem is, MSFS only have the situation of your aircraft is in perfect condition, or crashed. No damaged situation is simulated. This actually makes you feel like flying an aircraft in GTA5 instead of a flight simulator. You can try to land the aircraft as light, as professional, as decent as you can.
When I see your title, I thought you would blame the aerodynamics would be too easy to handle the aircraft.
