PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

That also happens in the -700.

PMDG and Asobo have identified the cause and it will be fixed in SU10

For now I am copying the flight plans from the 700 folder.

I really hope PMDG get this sorted with Navigraph before the 800 is released.

What an absurd reason not to buy an airplane!

I am quite certain this is not a texture bug. I have looked carefully at the screws under maximum zoom. The cockpit textures were digitized from photos of a real 737NG. They look the way they do because that is how they looked in the real airplane PMDG used for their model.

The screws you are complaining about are panhead screws not countersunk. They are raised above the metal surface of the kick plates not recessed into it.

There are any number of reasons why this would have been done. The kick plates would be removed whenever there is a recurrent inspection that requires accessing whatever is underneath. Over the years, the countersink around these screws may have become damaged. Countersunk holes are prone to becoming elongated (out of round) at high stress points.

If that happens in a non-structural piece of metal, the maintainers would request an engineering disposition to use a panhead fastener instead of the original countersunk screw, (in lieu of replacing the entire kick plate). Bombardier calls such modifications an “SRA”. I’m not sure what Boeing calls an engineering modification request, but they are very common in commercial aircraft maintenance.

It is even quite possible that the 737 SRM (Structural Repair Manual) has the substitution of panhead screws for countersunk already listed as an approved repair for the kick plate if it is a common defect.

The fact that you may have photos of other 737s with different screws is irrelevant.

In the simbrief desktop app downloader you can click the + sign (way to to the right under the bit that says PMDG Flightplan) to add a 2nd flight plan destination folder to export to.

If you use Simbrief, you can just download to both folders. The files are tiny, and any new versions automatically overwrite the old ones. So I’ve got two folders setup for the .rte and .wx files.

EDIT: Ninja’d by @BragRaindrop933

Yes thanks both I did not know this. Not being a debbie downer, I do wish however that PMDG had given Navigraph some notice on this. But ok hopefully the 800 will be a better experience.

In any case I love the plane.

■■■■■■ it’s like PMDG knew we wouldn’t buy the -600, so they made it $35… now I might have to buy it. How dare they.

Is the “PERF IMPRV PACKAGE” and “SHORT FIELD PACKAGE” Option modeled int the sim? optical and performance wise? Does it make a difference in fuel consumption / used runway in the sim?

Whats that saying they use in a casino or a bar or anything to do with a severe addiction…

I bet the marketing team were reading all of these pre release posts here, esp ones regarding,…
“oh im not going to fall for this… Im waiting for the 737-800…”

I bet the PMDG team were rubbing their hands sayin…

“You guys are all addicts…”

“And…”

:rofl::rofl: quick poll…

How many “Im not going to buy the 737-600” are now purchasing, downloading or flying the 736 as we speak

I do find the parking break a wee bit fiddly to regarding using joystick buttons but I do like the mecanical feel that they are going with…

Bit like when someone borrows your car and really does a good job in turing the steering and really locking it up, that you really have twist the last bit of play you have in the steering, with every bit of strength you have, so you can turn the ignition key…

Unfortunately I can’t do any 737 variant until the 800 comes because I just bought a new truck this week

Who else has a separate assignment for the parking brake and forgets to then find themselves pressing the other brake assignment in vein to then be part of the scenery or inside the departure gate:rofl::rofl:

Im guessing with other joystick users…

You have to push and hold the brake assignment then press your park brake assignment at the same time, finding that sometimes the park brake clicks in and out.

I have been able to stick to my plan of skipping the -600, but the price is certainly making it tempting to give in.

I will buy all variants. Pocket change. I know some cannot afford PMDG. I really don’t have any feelings for those whose purse is tight.

The performance improvement package is modeled. but I don’t recall if the short field package is or not. I didn’t go digging too deeply into the aircraft options in the FMC.

Yeah, that would be me. I honestly had no intention of buying but it went on sale during my usual Friday afternoon happy hour with my best friends, and after a good (strong) craft beer, I made an impulse buy. After getting my parking brake key assignment straightened out (see earlier post up-thread), I took it for a 2 hour 5 minute flight from KRNT down the west coast to KBUR.

The lack of winglets on the -600 came in handy when it came time to park, lol.

There is no Cargo Version of the -600 in real life.

I had no plans on buying the 737 anytime soon as I’ve been more than happy flying the DC-6, Bae 146 and Fenix, but the price hooked me as well. Now that I’m learning it I think it’s great fun and a real bargain. I miss having an EFB (I know that is coming) and also can’t figure out how to enter the cabin to setup my “passenger” views like I have in Fenix and 146 but otherwise no problems so far. I might even get the 800 now when released in a few weeks…

I always told myself there wasn’t a chance I’d buy the -600 (already have the -700 and will be getting the -800 when it releases), but man it’s difficult to not get it at that price… :joy:
