PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

Want to have some fun - post a comment like that on the PMDG FB page and what how you get slammed by all the fan bois. Apparently, that page is only useful for posting pretty screenshots and reminding folks of the awesomeness of this company.

Regardless of how useful the EFB will be, when one is hawking their products as a Study Level sim, I would think that it would be somewhat important to provide a device as widely used in RL as an EFB.

Keep in mind that embedded software generally runs on pretty low-spec hardware, and due to certification requirements in the aviation industry you can’t just slap a 2022 gaming PC into the avionics bay. (Also, the 737NG is from a different era of IT, anyway). And then, your software also needs to be reviewed and certified, which limits even more how complex your code can be.

A week ago I was seperating only between a Fenix and an Unfenix when selecting a plane.

But now the cabin of the BBJ 737 is getting better and better with every update, and some of the visual glitches inside the cockpit have been fixed (now only the fire extinguisher behind the copilot seat should get a fully round high-polygon 3D model instead of being octagonal angular shaped, and I have fixed all texture glitches during this week) that´s why the PMDG 737 is now slowly becoming strong competition

I assume (or to be more precise I really hope) PMDG plans to couple that awesome 3D-cabin to an openable cockpit door some day - instead of forcing to use that stupid drone-cam clipping through the hull when wanting to visit the cabin?
Hint hint hint next PNDG update hint
I should head over to the PMDG forum because it seems like no one else had this almost MacGyver-like idea mounting that beautyful and detailed 3D cabin with snacks on the tables to the rear end of the cockpit during this whole year…

A 3D model consisting of a polygon-3D-mesh and textures has no physical weight so it should easy be possible with the help of some duct-tape and a paper-clip to mount the gorgeous 3D cabin to other end of the virtual cockpit door…

INS systems were first installed in aircraft in the 60’s. GPS systems in the 90’s. Everyone with a tablet fetish needs to switch to decaf.

A couple of you are starting to veer off the subject of this thread and aim comments at one another. This isn’t constructive and often leads to posts being flagged and hidden. It is best if everyone stays on topic and not on each other. Thank you.

I’ve had a quick look through my manuals but haven’t been able to find reference to it yet.

As far as I recall, where the Go-Around track doesn’t end at a hold and is just a vector, that vector line is drawn almost infinitum. In the recesses of my memory I think it it does end at some point but I can’t for the life of me remember a) If it does and b) how long it extends for.

I am certain it is by design though.

As long as there are nougat croissants and caramel-capuchino next to the gaming laptop in my pre-owned 96 million $ bird everything will be fine, with or without EFB *ggg.
Have a snack while we discuss interesting technical details…

There are very important things this plane has to offer, for example did you notice that this yellowish coloured cardan shaft is really rotating while the flaps are coming out?

Seeing this driveshaft actually turning inside the opening wing is absolute impressive and the attention to detail a good study-level plane needs! (But the texture inside the half-open wings should be enhanced a little bit to match the high quality standards.)
The slats come out hydraulically moved, I am going to check if the slats stay in with both hydraulic systems failed and only the flaps come out, because the flaps seem to clearly be electrically driven:

For every cargo room and turbine are ETOPS-certified two, and sometimes even three fire extinguishing systems available:

When one engine overheats it starts to burn sooner or later, and needs to be fuel cut-off and having a fire extinguisher bottle discharged:

It immediately flames out, and is windmilling, and when checking the fire protection systems one of the extinguisher bottles is marked as empty and no longer lighting up when pushing the test button.
Sometimes the engine can be restarted by X-bleed without starting the APU or even by windmilling alone when flying faster than I guess 270 knots or so (not sure about the exact restart speed but N2 should be higher than 22%), sometimes the engine is marked as “heavily damaged/destroyed” in the maintenance check section of the FMC, and will not restart until repaired.

A very impressive plane with interesting simulated systems and keen attention to technical detail indeed.
I cannot say much about the flying procedures because I have only learned to fly the Fenix Airbus since June and I am new to all Boeing procedures and Boeing FMC programming… but now the PMDG 737 reaches the adequate level of visual quality and system fidelity to really catch my interest, and I am sure PMDG will enhance the visuals and polygon count even more with oncoming patches.
This bird will be a marvelous plane when it´s finished.

I am starting to appreciate your eye for the details @GamingCat2130 and at first I did find some your posts regarding the details mildly annoying, but I have come to appreciate your posts more and also the work you put up on Flightsim.to. I do admire your strive for graphical perfection

Thank you.

Really struggling with this. I’m using the 737-600

I’m get a drop down to about 8-9 fps in exterior view.
this has only happened sine the recent pmdg update as I’ve never had any issues with the 737 before.
At first I thought it was the liveries installed but it’s not.
I’ve reverted to using the default 737 pmdg livery to test and it’s the same in dx12 and dx11
If you use the drone view and move away slightly then the fps goes back up. Only have this issue with the pmdg 737
any ideas

Just a quick question where’s the brightness for the pilots standby attitude indicator please?

Assume you mean the digital version? If so, there are two buttons on the left hand side that control brightness. Lower one reduces brightness. Have to click them a fair amount before seeing a change but they work.

Now if we could only find a way to turn down the brightness of the clocks…

Or just click and hold until your desired level of brightness is reached.

Anyone wants a newer shiny throttle lever for the newest -800 and oncoming -900 version?

No matter how many cockpit pictures of the 737 I have seen and no matter how old the 737 was, in none of these pictures that silver TOGA sticker looked like crumpled tinfoil… That´s why I absolutely HAD to fix this (but I will make the newer NG throttle lever optional for the rugged-used-looked fans among you.)

And the Data Selector switch texture is finally fixed, I did this already a week ago but was too lazy to upload…

These two fixes coming next to my 737 series cockpit overhaul flightsim.to.

I´m glad that PMDG makes the full 737 treatment for the 737 fans out there, from the tiny -600 calf to the -900.

(and the -1200 and -1500 and the new 737-2193 flying giant  )

Taking off in this one is a little bit different. Rotating is not possible because at the lenght of this airplane that´s why it is accelerating until the wings generate enough lift to simple have her lift off without rotating the nose…

Well joke aside after the -900 comes the MAX -10, is PMDG probably planning to make the -900 and the MAX -10 as next releases?

It doesn’t need fixing, it’s meant to be like that. PMDG aren’t simulating a factory fresh aircraft here.

Those stickers will look like that a few months after the aircraft is delivered new…it’s simply wear n tear.

Was a documented bug on the 800 and listed as fixed for this build. If there is a new issue with the 600 I am sure it will be reported and fixed for the next build. Have you tried rolling back to previous build? Case in point I always back up my installs before updating just in case the NEW update contains bigger issues. Newer is not always better in 2022. Just saying =)

Is there a way of getting the previous version.
Lesson learnt for the next one, I’ll backup beforehand

I prefer the worn and we’ll used look than shiny new it looks more authentic.

Don´t worry everything in my cockpit overhaul will be fully optional (except the bugfixes of course like the gravity gear extension with the complete glitched textures, or that Data Selector switch with the wrong texture on it etc).
On the thrust lever I was just ironing that strange crumpled-tinfoil look of the take off go around sticker, but like I said every cockpit area will be optional  (aaaaand I made the FMC computer even more dirty and used, it´s not the goal to make the cockpit completely factory new.)

But maybe on the BBJ version a brandnew cockpit would look realistic and immersive, while the freighters could be even more dirty… hm why not! The more variety this cool 737 fleet has in the flight decks and interiors the better.

Does anyone else have the purposing up/down with the Autopilot engaged after the latest update. I see on the PMDG forum they know its a bug but I couldn’t find any additional information on it.
