PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

Ah, the VR crowd. Yeah I suppose for them it would be “necessary”. I tried to see about maybe adding what platform a user is on next to their name to make it easier for people to direct their messages but all I got back was to just check people’s profiles. This is a prime example of not knowing who uses what and “wasting” posts. No, I’m going to check everyone’s profile before I decide to reply to them.

Yeah, good idea. I am tired of replying to ignorant users who think they know what other players need.

True. But that problem would be easily fixed or reduced if everyone could know which platform everyone is using without needing to click into their profile to do so. If I had known you were a VR user and knowing how limited VR users are with accessing out of sim or popup stuff I wouldn’t have replied. There’s the hard way and then there’s the smart way, right now they’re sticking with the hard way.

In the meantime you may try the All-in-One panel over there at flightsimulator.me. It‘s quite good including Navigraph and Simbrief. And it works even better in VR than in 2D imo.

I tried it some time ago. It’s just another 2D window.

It clearly says it’s a tool designed for VR users from a user named VR Sim Pilot:

Going off of that information alone I’m thinking you didn’t do something right. If he’s a VR user and can use it fine, so can you. Sometimes all the solutions are out there but because it’s not THE solution someone wants they sit there waiting for something that may never happen or will take a lot longer to happen thus leading to a more agitated perspective.

Maybe you should stop thinking and end this pointless discussion. A 2D tools is not an alternative for a 3D EFB. The window floats in the middle of the air and it moves with you wherever you go in the virtual world. It breaks the immersion but what do you know about it, you fly on a 2D screen. I said that I tried this “must have VR tool” and didn’t like it. Why are you trying so hard to convince me that I am wrong? EFB is coming to B737 and I will be using Navigraph tool until it arrives. Or fly Fenix A320, which has exactly what I need. Unfortunately its flight model is not as good as PMDG.

No tablet and no real updates to speak of in this time frame. Just a lot of talk.

We don’t need an FMS, we can always just print out copies of charts and fly the entire route manually. However, it’s present in every 737 cockpit and used for every flight by RL crews.

Kinda like the EFB.

No, in VR it does not behave like this. At least, in my case and with the current version. You can size it to whatever size you want and you can drag it to a place in the cockpit where normally the EFB is attached and it stays there as expected. I don’t want to convince you or advertise the tool but I find it helpful to not only have Navigraph in one place but also a PDF Viewer, Simbrief data, Checklists and so on.

Have fun!

I’d give it another go but don’t see an option to download it for free. Is 20.00 EUR premium account the only option now? I am sure I downloaded it for free when I tried it last time.

You do need an FMC for dispatch as per MEL. You don’t need an EFB for dispatch at all. People want to run before they can walk. All this time without an EFB has been a precious opportunity for people learn how to calculate dispatch performance manually using the real airplane manuals.

The EFB is looking great. It’s in BETA. The BETA team keep pushing changes and the dev team are working on those at the same time they’re working on many other projects (NAVDATA, 777, 747). It’s PMDG we’re talking about (4 or 5 people, I don’t know) not Rockstar Games (thousands).

Can I ask what is the most common reason why VNAV wouldn’t engage? I thought I set up as usual with altitudes on FMC and bug but for some reason VNAV was not engaging for the entire flight?

Did you confirm no discontinuities in your flight plan?

Discontinuities do not prevent VNAV from engaging. Did you activate and execute your route? Did you populate and execute the PERF INIT?

Start with this video from one of my former airline colleagues (and PMDG Beta Tester).

You didn’t activate the performance site on the cdu

Not executing PERF INIT might be the culprit as I did notice on approach that I had forgotten to execute a page…possibly in PERF! Lots to learn for me on this aircraft on XBOX. Thanks for the input. First time that happened so 99.9% user error…

Why can´t the hidden postings no longer be read like in all the years before when someone is interested in it? I would like to know what Dr. Venkman from the Ghostbusters had to say about the 737  maybe the posting was even about a stage 7 apparition outside the cockpit door while overflying the Bermuda triangle.
