I was responding to a point raised by a contributor to this thread who mentioned not being able to install the DC6 on their xbox. I’m in the same boat having bought the DC6 direct from pmdg when I only had a pc. I mention orbx simply as an example of a major player in the flight sim ecosystem that has their own installation system which can’t interact with the Microsoft Marketplace. If I want an orbx airport to run on both my pc and my xbox then as things stand I have to buy it twice from Orbx or once if I use the MS Marketplace with all the issues that involves. That doesn’t sit comfortably with me but from what orbx have said, its down to microsoft.
I see, sorry for being dumb.
Yes, it’s a bit odd, these various systems that are exclusive. Steam and MS Store are not neven compatible on PC. Let alone Xbox.
Nowadays I often hear about ‘you don’t buy softare, you only buy a license’. Well those licenses sure are crippled. Buy it here but cannot use it there, even on the same PC or same Xbox Game Account.
It is my understanding some of the issues are technical, but the marketplace remains a mess.
Less content, different versions, huge delays in updates/bug fixes, reviews that don’t reflect how it performs on your platform, people on steam being double charged, people on Xbox and MS direct purchase PC not having purchased items show up.
You stated it best when you said it is the customers that suffer.
A great example:FI spitfire, generally regarded as a great add-on. Several things did not work on Xbox including you can’t shut the door from a cold and dark start. Xbox waits a month for an update - the update doesn’t fix the issue - FI and MS/Asobo conclude after the update Xbox is not running WASM code and an update is still pending. Other than a small obscure thread, most don’t know about this, not reflected in reviews, and what is a top 10, maybe top 5 add-on is unplayable from a cold and dark condition on Xbox for about 2 months and counting (and still sitting in the marketplace for purchase).
The whole system needs reworked from how you pay for items, reviews, and there either needs to be some sort of ‘test fly’ or store credit refund policy if no one is going to make sure this stuff works cross-platform.
If your on PC. Buy it from PMDG if you want updates in a timely meaner. That goes for all add-ons. I regret buying the CRJ on the marketplace.
Xbox users. I’m sorry your stuck with the Marketplace and I hope they improve it.
I know the marketplace is a source of ongoing revenue for MS but until they remove the significant drawbacks vs buying direct from developers I will not be spending another cent there.
They should just give full control for the developers to post updates whenever they want without all the validation process. Just let the DRM encryption to run 24/7 so whenever the developer has an update ready, they just upload it to that tool. Let the system DRM encrypts it, then instantly post the update, and everyone would automatically see the update in the marketplace.
This would be wonderful, especially for Xbox, but there is is sqrt(-1) chance MS will ever let this happen.
Getting back on topic, while PMDG are good at keeping things tight lipped until they are ready I bet we would have heard something by now if the DC-6 was coming to the marketplace this week so the wait continues…
I 100% agree, I don’t see why this is not a thing. I understand they want to have control over which products are uploaded, but updates??
Delays are not acceptable? It’s been available to buy direct from PMDG for months. Buying direct ensures they get the full cut of the money, which helps with long term future development. You get regular updates and liveries from them too, not to mention excellent support with any enquiries. I understand the frustration if on Xbox but unfortunately that’s part of being locked in to Microsoft, who always know what the customer needs more than the customer theirselves do……apparently.
Are you really replying to me? Because i’m not sure, you seem a little lost. If you think that delaying updates for months is ok then it’s fine but i don’t agree on that.
And again no DC-6
I totally agree. We need those big birds and not just some mods with “working cockpit”… We need high fidelity planes (airliners).
I just found this big bird that was released last week. I’ve been enjoying flying with it. It’s still not perfect. But it’s good enough for now, and they plan more improvements in the future.
Like you said…it’s good enough for now…
No DC 6 today
I might have to give this one a go. Some say it’s good enough, some don’t like it. But I see decent numbers of positive feedback.
How much longer do we need to wait for this bird to land on the marketplace??
I’ve only (and will continue to) purchase addons/aircraft via the ingame marketplace. I think the days of having to hunt and update addons from all over the internet are long past. (thank GOD!)
Asobo and the 3rd party developers really need to push to make the marketplace a workable solution for everyone.
The alternative is simply loss of my business. I’m probably not alone with this stance.
Any updates on this?
Yes, in the last Q&A from Asobo they said they were preparing to launch this week afaik
