PMDG Douglas DC-6

Yeah but that was only that moment he was hyped about him being the first trying the plane. PMDG gave him the premiere.

Chewwy’s stream is much more tolerable

Depends on what you like. Chewwy doesn’t know a lot about avation, he flies the magenta line and his knowledge outside of that is very basic. He also said that himself when flying the DC-6.

As a pilot and long-time aviation enthusiast, I’ve dabbled at trying to stream and post videos. Flying is my passion but I’ve been strangely hesitant to just get out there in the streaming world.

Whether his style suits folks is certainly up to you to decide but I give props for quality streamers who put themselves out there to educate and entertain us. It is a skill for sure. Kudos to him.

Why do people watch other people playing video games or simulators?

Unless you’re learning, it’s weird and borderline creepy.

I also don’t like how “influencers” get stuff for free before the customer (who’ll actually pay the developer’s bills) gets shafted with later releases.

In fact, screw it. I’m no longer buying anything where an influencer or YouTuber has been sent review copies to “drum up” interest via cheap to access marketing.

Why do people watch other people play sports? Why not go out, and kick a football yourself?

My opinion (from one that is relatively new to slight sims, but has been gaming for 4 decades) is that they should price it at whatever makes them the most money. That would allow them to more freedom to make more of these top of the line planes.

That said, I have no idea if charging more would outearn a lower price.

I have been wanting a Connie more than anything, this is very close, so I am excited to see how much it will be. But I think I will cap it at about $40. I just don’t have the time to justify any more.

If it were me, I would think that a lower price would assure all of the people on the fence to buy it. And it would be great to see my work all over the place when I am flying in the sim.

Also, I wonder if a higher price would cause more issue with sharing/piracy, etc? I am not really sure about that as I haven’t been in the flight sim world much in the last 15 years.

Whatever they do, I wish them all the best! It really looks like an awesome addition to the sim!

Clearly I lost that one.

I’m now betting on either 12:00 or 16:00 hours local time.

But well
 might as well be 15:23

Ya know, if the world comes to an end, and it gets streamed on youtube, the comments section is gonna look just like this thread: “don’t like it,”“they did it all wrong,” “boring,” “what a downer,” “how come DCS multiplayer isn’t working?”

Because they have a much bigger market now with MSFS2020.

MSFS2020 reaches a huge demographic, especially with the Series X release just around the corner.

They would be SMART to price their first and second release(FS2020) very competitively. Yes, hard core pilots will pay $80 for a plane. Most others won’t pay almost what the actual sim costs for an add on plane. If they just want to sell a few then price it high. If they want to be the signature add on across the masses they will need to lower the price. Make it up in volume.

That’s why they’ve included a virtual Flight Engineer

the pdmg vids themselves are the best, straight form the source, knowledgeable people,
no bling bling stuff.
no need for anything else.

Judging by the tutorials, there’s a huge amount of work represented in the DC-6. I look at it as how much time, effort, and expense would it cost me to duplicate it and just about anything they would charge becomes reasonable. On the other hand, price it too high and I could buy multiple other aircraft instead.

Price it too low and you get lots of impulse buys on an aircraft that could generate overwhelming support traffic and even hurt sales as influencers take to the streaming platforms to complain about a tendency to turn, or how it’s slow compared to a fighter jet, or any number of complaints some might mistakenly make about a plane they don’t understand.

I doubt PMDG will break radically from pricing on P3D. Might even be the same to the penny.

This sounds like someone not familiar with PMDG. When have they EVER been “an addon across the masses”? They have always catered to a pretty specific segment. I don’t expect that to change. I don’t expect the majority of X-Box players to be interested in actually making a commitment to invest that much time digging into the various systems. They just want to zoom around. That’s not the market for PMDG. Never has been.

It really is a niche market though. How many want an aircraft you don’t really see that well out of, that’s fairly slow, that’s not only complicated but decidedly un-modern, etc? They aren’t sleek like modern airliners, or convenient, and you’re looking at a subset of the airliner and classic markets which are already a subset of the flight sim market.

I hope that the more general simmers buy in and discover another fun aspect of flight simulation but suspect this will not be an add-on for the masses.

This is like the equivalent of someone who is not really into sports cars asking Ferrari to drop their prices if they want to be a signature product across the masses because nowadays we have MILLIONS of car buyers. It makes no sense.

Lol. I’m very familiar with them. The Sim world has changed with FS2020. We aren’t I. Kansas anymore
Its the most ambitious and advanced sim to date. It’s buggy as hell but it’s still leaps and bounds ahead of others. If PDMG wants to stay a little boutique publisher then good for them. With this new market they have the potential to make lots of money vs just cater to 3‰ of the flight Sim market. Will see.

Everyone has a different opinion. I really enjoyed the way he presented and felt he was engaging.

Eh. Ya know
a soul of a company might be very important. Not every business owner (I am speaking from personal example here) strives to have as many customers as possible. Some of us actually are proud that we don’t cater to the masses. I know it’s hard to understand for some. But sometimes drastically changing what you and your products stand for can have a detrimental effect.
