No sorry
it’s in the Community\pms50-gns530-data\Config\pms50-gns530 folder
In fact when you install the pms50-gns530-data MOD you should find a file named “example_config.json” in this directory. You just have to copy it or rename it to config.json in the same directory and modify the content as described in my previous answer.
OK, now it’s in both, hopefully that won’t cause a problem. I had the syntax wrong anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter where I had it, it wasn’t going to work. We’ll know soon!
Man, I wish payware addon makers (cough, Carenado, cough) provided the hands on customer service you do, and you are giving away your product.
I tested it (and with a tiny non-towered airport no less) and it worked perfectly. So did the weather radar. So the syntax fix you suggested did the trick. I’m not sure which one, as I left it in both directories, but that didn’t break anything so I’m just going to leave it.
On another note, is there any way to make the “Airspace in 2nm” or “Inside Airspace” messages go away? Sometimes I think I’m not even in the airspace when considering my altitude, but I haven’t cross referenced that with an actual chart so I’m not sure. BTW, if that’s how it works in a REAL 530, that’s how I want it to work in yours, though it is your creation so you are free to do what you want.
As I’ve said, I’m a realism nut, and don’t want things “fixed” if that’s the way it works IRL.
I’ve been pretty impressed with their b1rds so far, especially the M20R and PA44 (the 182T is okay, but would be better with steam gauges), but they are absolutely horrible at communicating, unless there’s a place they do it that I have not yet found.
Who, Carenado? They make announcements on their FB page, they do not interact with customers. I have asked them multiple questions, and inquired about multiple things that may be bugs, or may be user error, but they’ve never so much as responded to me a single time.
And I went out of my way to actually TAG them, in case they had just too many things to sort through, still nothing.
So, no, not their FB. It’s a good place to hear about upcoming releases, and brand new just released stuff, and sometimes even patches, but as an interactive communication platform, nope.
EDIT: This post was a reply to @FlyingsCool5650 for some reason the “Reply to Post” function doesn’t always actually reply to the post.
Yeah, it’s a silly thing of this forum, they assume people know you’re answering the previous post (which is a dumb assumption, I agree).
Yeah, while they never respond directly in a public forum, I have gotten answers from them from zendesk support issues with them, and they do, as you noted, respond to general issues that tons of people are complaining about new or recently released products.
Carenado only want to hear from customers when they want to buy something. They’ll reply to such questions on their FB page, but ignore questions or comments about issues with their planes.
> `UPDATE OF UPDATES
> With the last FS2020 update released yesterday our aircraft don´t crash to desktop any more when manipulating certain 3D objects, but some elements such as windows, doors and sunvisors becomes inoperative.
> We have submitted a fix for CT182 Skylane and M20R Ovation to Microsoft early this week and hope to send a fixed PA44 Seminole in the next hours.
> Sorry about all of these update issues, but it is not our fault.
> The first update we sent was never published because the new Microsoft update broke our aircraft again. So we had to fix them again.
> We are in Microsoft ´s hands on this, they should publish CT182 and M20R at any moment soon and PA44 next week.`
I don’t know what else to expect from them for communication. They likely have 10’s of thousands of customers.
How about they tell us they’re working on them when they’re working on them? Or that they are planning to send it to Asobo whenever it is they figure that out? Or even that they’re aware of X, Y, and Z issues that need to be addressed?
Several weeks later when all they’re doing is covering their own rear ends is not what I describe as good customer service.
Hell, I get almost immediate responses on this very board from addon makers who are doing it for FREE!!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m pretty impressed with what they’ve released for MS2020 so far, even if I do think their “on sale” price is more reasonable than their “not on sale” price. I own all 3 of them, 2 that I reluctantly paid full price for. And it’s not that I’m cheap, I’m more than happy to pay PDMG well over $100 for an in depth, study level simcraft 747, but those are an order of magnitude more difficult than patching an already existing piston single (or even a twin) to be MSFS compatible.
It’s just that their communication skills are terrible, especially when, as @Crunchmeister71 noted, it comes to fixing things they’ve already been paid for. I’ve seen them be responsive to “would-be customers”, but it’s like they don’t want to hear from you unless your wallet is open. It’s like they forget they’re going to want future business from us, too.
The real unit works this way (with airspace messaging). Now if you have the last MOD version (1.0.23), you can disable the airspace messaging. Change your config.json file in this way:
Now, @ScorpionFilm422, you know I keep your mod updated consistently!
I made note of how to make those changes, but my realism infection is preventing me from doing it. But should I decide to “cheat” in the future, at least now I know how.
Thanks, much. Again lol…
BTW, does the radar pick up clouds? I was flying earlier and there wasn’t a raindrop within 100nm (and probably more), but the radar was showing returns that just happened to coincide with where the clouds were. It makes sense, I guess, as it’s just measuring moisture reflectivity and even rainless clouds have that, but how can you tell the difference? Assuming you can, that is…
@N6722C, I don’t know if it’s any different or not. Before 2020 came out (the sim, not the year), I hadn’t simmed in many years, and I don’t remember ever having used radar, even though I know I had some PMDG stuff. Whether they weren’t equipped with radar, or I just didn’t bother learning/using it I couldn’t tell you.
