I’m having trouble getting a handle on viewing POI’s with the smartcam. Selecting the nearest POI isn’t very often what happens if there are multiple POI’s close by. I fear the controls being assigned to input devices isn’t what the software is expecting, and it doesn’t seem to be triggering the event listed in the control assignment menus.
Is it just me? I’ve tried assigning joystick keys to “next poi” and “Toggle smartcam” with no better results… which trigger is doing what? “next POI” isn’t doing anything at all no matter what input it is set to.
Its very much hit and miss to have the closest POI targeted by the smart camera. Its taking quite a lot of flying time to hit 100 POI’s viewed. I almost never register more than one in a flight if they are close to each other.
I started a new flight and just noticed a POI 5200+ NM away is the next POI and I can’t clear it… not right
anyone else?
Hi @Tooldog007,
I’ve altered your title to reflect what your post is about and removed the “+” symbols, so that when searched on, it pulls up. If I have it wrong, you can correct it - but leave out symbols.
SmartCam handling could be better.
I too have noticed that you need to be almost on top of the PoI for it to appear in the list and that the camera will then auto-select any other target in that list as soon as it can - even if you are zoomed in and tracking the PoI at the time.
My desire would be for some function to filter what is listed. The list contains pretty much every airport in the region, the flight plan whatever else and the smartcam wants to snap to these all the time. It makes it very hard to know if you are looking at the PoI object or it has its focus on a distant airfield that is in the same direction.
This is an example of a target being dragged into the next session. In the capture you can see a navaid for somewhere 5785.48NM away. However the active flight plan at the time of this capture is all local to the Tokyo bay area.
Hello @Hester40MT,
Thanks for the assist! How about: “POI Targeting Problems”

More testing confirms. POI targeting isn’t working as it should:
Nearest POI is sometimes not the SmartCam target.
POI seems to be overwhelmed by many nearby targets.
SmartCam is inconsistent in what it targets.
SmartCam target is sometimes difficult to reset.
Bonus:
There is no indication of what is the current, former, or next target.
Alt Bonus:
Flight planning of POI’s (or any other) cannot be rearranged easily and sometimes at all.

I really wish the POIs and smartcam worked well…I have never been able to target the POIs beyond a couple of times.
It’s not just with input devices either. It works poorly with the default keybinds too. Almost 350 hrs of flight time i only have 2 POI viewed with smartcam.
