[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Sim Update 16 Feedback

Do you have the rendering pop in think? Lods switching and popping in?

Yes … and when approaching closer, even worse. Extremely bad with harbours or similar in the approach (Sydney, 34R) … a lot of popping-up there … extremely annoying … was once my favourite place to fly to …

I think reverting 2020 bing maps to previous old version is not the best option. I agree that old bing maps had much better color consistency and more natural looking, but it was not just because the raw data itself was good either. MSFS (2020) has some color correction algorithm applied to raw aerial imagery before being rendered as ground texture. I asked this to the dev by email and they confirmed it.

The problem with SU16 (and 2024) the bing maps data used in both sim doesn’t seem have proper color correction like before. Hence we see various color glitches such as abrupt tile color change, oversaturated and washed out texture, black or white patches, etc. If the new bing maps data has proper color correction like before, I think it will be better.

Edit: Ah I forgot airport shifting issue

this really blew up, experienced my second CTD since SU16, cant recall the last time ive had a CTD. im going through my community folder now and taking off everything ive installed since SU16 which was only the INI A350 and a new GSX update .. just getting more and more fustrating on my end. exception code x0000005c so a memory error that may or may not be the sim or an addon itself

The worst spot I’ve found so far is around Milwaukee Airport (MKE / KMKE), where procedural trees, objects, and photogrammetry pop in and out barely 300 ft in front of the camera—even with TLOD 400 and OLOD 200. My personal “reference point of awfulness,” if you will.

Would be interesting if anyone who’s reported that everything looks fine on their end could check Milwaukee. No need to start a full flight—just spawn at MKE and use the drone camera.

Its so bad man! I cant play before its fixed, it ruins the game! Like I can deal with bad ground textures and all but not with those popping in textures!!!

I feel you. Yesterday I was so frustrated that I didn’t even bother taxiing to the gate—I just closed the sim right after landing. Normally I enjoy the whole parking routine, deboarding, properly shutting down the plane, etc., but yesterday I just gave up after everything I’d seen on the way to my destination airport.

I’m really glad to see I’m not alone in sharing this sentiment. Hopefully more and more people join the forums to voice their disappointment. Even if it’s a lost cause it’s still good for the soul! I’m still unsure whether the source of this problem is Bing imagery or MSFS, but I hope there is some deeper investigation by MS to somehow improve this situation.

Yes. It’s been puzzling me all day why—and how—this can fluctuate so drastically from area to area.

I noticed that, too! I was so curious (I live in the U.S.) that I jumped onto Google Earth, just to see if my eyes were deceiving me. They weren’t. It’s still water, in real life.

BTW, whatever happened there recently in MSFS 2020 also sadly happened in MSFS 2024! This seems to corroborate what many have been implying in this thread - that they’re now using the same source scenery data for both versions.

Sadly I think it’s just that the quality of Bing maps in 2025 has taken a serious nosedive anywhere outside of the USA. There is a LOT of low resolution satellite imagery for major cities that were high resolution on the older map data. It really sucks.

heres a test, fly into hotspots (like on volanta hot airports), and see if the scenery is a lot better. if its that then (i know this is throwing a rock at a hummingbird here) maybe they have the server load by prioirty areas? i know its a major stretch but server load would be reduced if the servers are prioritizing areas that are mostly flown to while the rest are put down on a less prioirtized list.

idk im just frustrated as all of you, and im gonna take a good 9 hour break of flying and testing to go and do something productive today to make my wife happy. lets just see if this thread does anything of value for us 2020 simmers

At least for FS2024 there is a fix in flightsim.to, adressing the water - issue @ EGLC. Doesn`t work in FS2020 though …

Didn’t know this. Thank you!

Just type EGLC in the flightsim - search and you will see … works fine!

Re the render lod q, yes indeed.

Sydney is my favourite place to live  but I digress.. From my quick testing photogrammetry areas seemed better (when you’re in them) but could have been placebo. Honestly with non pg areas so poor it was like a cracker when you’re starving I think
