[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Marketplace Feedback

Not sure if the vote makes sense at this stage. You might want to schedule a vote again when the marketplace has 3rd party developer products.

Some feedback on the Home Page of the Marketplace:

I own the Premium Deluxe edition. The top row on the home page on my PC shows:

  • Standard to Premium Deluxe Upgrade
  • Standard > Aviator Upgrade
  • Premium Deluxe > Aviator Upgrade

The Trending Now row showed (it no longer appears):

  • Three aircraft I already own.

The Top Rated row shows:

  • Standard to Deluxe Upgrade
  • Standard to Premium Deluxe Upgrade
  • Standard > Aviator Upgrade
  • Deluxe > Premium Deluxe Upgrade
  • Deluxe > Aviator Upgrade
  • Premium Deluxe > Aviator Upgrade
  • plus a bunch of aircraft I already own.

I see no point in displaying content that is not applicable to my edition or that I already own. From a marketing perspective, this real estate should be showing things that I could purchase. Every item that I own takes away advertising space from a product that I don’t own.

Right now, with no 3rd-party content available, the only thing I should be seeing is the Premium Deluxe > Aviator Upgrade.

It’s a pity that individual MS/AS aircraft are not available, as then my home page could have been filled with aircraft from the Aviator edition.

In addition, the navigation on the homepage is inconsistent. The top row has < > buttons that allow one to endlessly scroll through the 3 oversized (on my 55" screen) product images in either direction:

The Top Rated row allows scrolling left or right only until the end of the selection. It also has three buttons that appear to do the same thing:
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 3_12_2025 9_07_40 PM

There is an Up button that appears at the bottom of the home page:

But no corresponding Down button when I’m at the top of the home page.

The Trending Now row (visible this morning, but now missing, so no screenshot) was cut in half, and the < > buttons on the top row are within black transparent bars right in the middle of the images on the left & right.

The Top Rated < > buttons are somewhat better placed towards the left & right edges of the screen, but still overlap the product images:

Ideally (IMO) all the < > buttons should be at the edge of the screen & not covering the individual product images at all.

And why does the the top row extend to the very edge of the window, but not the Top-Rated row?:

On my 55" TV, the screen lacks a consistent theme and is, IMO, a bit of a mess.

Shops that are difficult to navigate, or lack good presentation of goods are off putting and make shopping a bit of a mission. Consequently, they tend to sell far less than shops that present well to the customer. The Marketplace design choices introduce challenges that are unnecessary and should be avoided if customer sympathy is a consideration.

The state of the Marketplace is far less important than the state of the game itself, so I hope the Marketplace design remains a side-order, as lets face it, the game still needs a lot of TLC. We know testing (or lack of it) was one of the problems behind the game being released in a poor state; which begs the question, was Marketplace design feedback not sought widely enough?

Or just give us options to make it as big as we want it to be, which would please everyone.

I advise against purchasing the Aviator Edition!
All FF and LL aircraft are more or less incompatible with MSFS 2024.

In addition to the fact that some are completely unflyable, like the aircraft depicted in the Marketplace thumbnail (An-225), in every single one of these 30 aircraft, the instrument display elements, buttons, and switches disappear if you move the cockpit camera “too far” away from them. This happens even when you’re sitting in your captain’s or co-pilot’s seat. Sometimes you have to zoom in very closely until the switches, buttons, instruments, etc., fully load.

Strictly speaking, when upgrading to Aviator Edition, there should be a warning “Not Creator Approved” because it is not yet compatible with MSFS 2024.

Now when I posted this I’d forgotten that all the helicopters in 2024 were in the standard edition, except for the CH-47.

Oh, and the H225.

So why no H225? Well, as has been pointed out above, it’s not really in a finished state, and it’s a bit tricky selling an unfinished product.

Then why hasn’t it been updated? Well, you’d have to ask Microsoft or HPG, but there hasn’t yet been any comment from Microsoft, and HPG on their Discord have been maintaining radio silence on the subject since December, when they said, “We haven’t submitted an update yet and right now we’re waiting to hear from MS so we can understand what is still coming.”

In the absence of information there will be speculation, so here’s mine.

If I were HPG I might have been happy to be paid to see one of my top-end and correspondingly expensive helicopters in the equally expensive Premium Deluxe Edition, but I wouldn’t have been best pleased to hear that Microsoft had decided to sell that helicopter (which it now owns outright) in the Marketplace for less than half the price I generally charge.

On the other hand in the mad rush to get at least the shell of everything out the door by the due date Microsoft was probably obliged to accept delivery of third-party aircraft on an ‘as-is’ basis to avoid future legal wrangles over who was responsible for what.

Which would mean that they wouldn’t be entitled to demand delivery of the upper modes of the H225, or indeed any other improvements. They might get such improvements from developers who plan to continue doing business with Microsoft, but not quite so willingly from developers who feel their business model has been undermined.

So now I have leverage. How would this be used?

Microsoft could agree not to undercut my pricing and charge the going rate for an HPG helicopter, sharing the additional profit with HPG.

The upper modes could be sold as an add-on pack to bring the total price of the helicopter up to a level commensurate with other HPG helicopters (and hopefully given free to purchasers of the Premium Deluxe edition - e.g. me - who were reasonably expecting a full-featured HPG helicopter).

Or Microsoft could simply agree not to put the aircraft in the Marketplace - it certainly wasn’t there last time I looked, but that might not be the final outcome.

As I say, however, all this is speculation. But perhaps we’ll hear something on Friday’s livestream.

All I can see on that Market Place homepage is UPGRADE UPGRADE UPGRADE! Basically saying, please spend more money on our broken & unfinished product. Litterally Zero shame Microsoft.

Also saying the Marketplace is now available, without any 3rd Party Support/Products is basically a wet ■■■■. (you know, the passionate developers who propelled MSFS popularity because of their outstanding products)

Shame on you Microsoft & Asobo for dropping the ball once again. You guys keep fumbling with MSFS2024. You guys might need a change of leadership to steer that boat back on the right track, just saying.

(Yes I had salt in my coffee this morning) But my points still remains.

You are right mate, the bad communication the so called power of silence is not really helpful. And launching a Marketplace with 0 3rd party content is like well stated a wet ■■■■. On top trying to grind additional money with updates for content which is not working! Sarcastic a big LOL!

Marketplace is not ready.
Repetitive though it sounds I too am disappointed there’s no third party products present yet.

It’s either to go someway to placate people by showing, “look we have released the marketplace..”

or..

it’s a testbed before loading the 3rd party stuff.

The latter is ok, and makes sense
so long as you communicate that. Otherwise everyone sprints over to it, is disappointed and closes the page.

How do I know if a product is for the MSFS2020 or the MSFS2024, or are all products in the marketplace for both Sim?

I have noticed that there are different prices in the msfs 24 Marketplace for people who have bought the game on Steam and in the Microsoft shop, e.g. the upgrade of the Premium Deluxe Edition to the Aviator Edition for people on Steam costs 459 PLN and for people who have bought the game in the Microsoft shop it is 359 PLN.

Then the Marketplace should say “No airports currently available”. Not give us a infinite turning “wait” icon. VERY amateuristic.

They really need to hire someone for UI/UX.
On the main page, the navigation is different from one section to another.
The hover effect on the arrows isn’t the same between the first and second section.
Infinite scrolling on the first one, but not on the second.
Different margins between sections

This is basic UI/UX design.
I made a few tweaks on my end to make it a bit more pleasant.

Also, there’s only aircraft in the Marketplace. And UPGRADES of course. SEND MONEY! MORE MONEY!

Another half-baked ‘feature’.

The only access I have to the Marketplace, is to discover what I already own, what comes default and the world update. Nothing else comes up. Attempt to open up airports and all I get is the circle in the center on a grey background. Can’t hardly rate anything as better than 1, when I don’t have it.

Yep, this is all I see.

I came to the Marketplace to get the World Update Brazil (as many others).
One would expect that this update is prominently shown in the Marketplace, but alas, even by scrolling down I didn’t initally see it. I had to use the search function to make it show up.
Maybe this is intentional, that is, MS wants to have the most expensive products on top and thus a free update gets zero visibility, but given that they promote the World update this still feels
 inconsistent.

Then there’s this cryptic message below the download button:

Translated: " * Buys the amount of Simverse coins required for bying this product."
Honestly, I have no idea what it is trying to tell me. Come on Asobo, this message is either irrelevant and should not be there or it is relevant, then please rephrase it so it makes sense.

Even worse, the Marketplace extremely prominently tries to sell me updates to Premium Deluxe version etc. even though my version is a “Premium Deluxe” already. Does MS really think we will pay a second time for the same content?!?

Oh, and given the original price difference of usually 30€ between the versions, the updates are somewhat overpriced (88 instead of 60€).

Last but not least, only aircraft available for purchase, nothing even remotely interesting for a “world photographer” like me. (Some scenery makers signalled that the Marketplace is not yet ready for their producs, which explains this situation.)

All in all a rather off-putting experience. Sorry.
Hint: Have a look how the Steam shop manages to show me content I’m interested in instead of showing my content I don’t need or want.

It looks like some third party aircraft have made it into the Marketplace, BUT they are not the most current versions. Hopefully they will get updated with today’s Marketplace drop.
