That’s good to hear. I was basing my comments on MS/Asobo’s own minimum requirements but I don’t mind being proven wrong.
Got it for the ZX 81 decades ago
It’s actually worked really well for me, because after a long day at work constantly having to interact with people I can just be by myself in front of the sim and be in control. ATC can be a bit of sensory overload, but it’s not like I’m on Vatsim (or using multiplayer). Plus being obsessive with detail is a plus when flying an airliner. Oh, hang on… you meant the Spectrum home computer! Never mind.
What GPU do you use?

For a minute I thought I don’t remember the spectrum being that powerful. I just remember manic miner
I have Nvidia RTX 4060 with 8GB ![]()
There’s an old saying: Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, then shame on me. I assure you I will NOT be purchasing any new versions of MSFS in the future until it is well into it’s maturation stages.
I agree with you wholeheartedly in everything you shared. Sadly though, I don’t know if Microsoft/Asobo cares deeply about its product over its bottom line. MSFS 2024 was released far sooner than it should have been. Even after their admission and “giving” us free models here and there, what have they learned from that lesson? With the release of these major updates, it doesn’t seem like a whole lot. Business as usual from them.
While I do not necessarily disagree with you to a point, for me, it has not been an unmitigated disaster. I just hit 500 hours in vr since launch. That is basically an hour of msfs24 vr a day for a year and a half. I just finished a flight from kmsn to kbuf. The weather was incredible as was the flight. Last night I flew kdca to kelm. Awesome night flight. No issues at all.
Anyway, I hope you are able to figure out your issues (or Asobo fixes them) so that you can get as much enjoyment out of the sim as I have. ![]()
PC user. Had near perfect performance for the entirety of SU4, literally no issues at all. Since SU5, performance is very similar to SU3 for me, in other words terrible. The only time I get good performance is whilst cruising. My landings are getting completely ruined after the return of stop motion slideshow stutters just before and during landing. Please just revert back to SU4!
I agree 100%. I don’t know why they don’t just give us SU4 back and put SU5 back into beta. They got themselves into this mess by not listening to us, why should we have to suffer a broken sim for months while they figure out how to fix it.
I ask myself what is worse. Asobo released su5 knowing the bad state ? Or are they unable to manage the complex code structure and don’t know the root cause.
for me . su5 is way better on performance , idk so many complains ,
Because the beta is over, providing 100’s of fixes and most people are experiencing far better performance particularly in VR. Seems strange to go backwards. The next beta will hopefully address the issues related to your hardware/software configuration.
I admire the faith many have in Asobo, but it’s so difficult to maintain that faith when you’ve witnessed the franchise’s rebirth since 2020 and look back, realizing the same mistakes are still being made.
This isn’t something new today or yesterday… it’s been going on for years. The company grew but didn’t change its mindset about its own product and its way of operating. It was pressured to make a new simulator due to “market” issues that certainly came from the publisher (MS), and it used an unfinished branch as the foundation for the new game. That’s why in 2024 you saw bugs that were fixed in 2020.
But like in construction, anything built with a weak foundation collapses. It doesn’t happen today, but it will happen at some point.
The only thing I see is a vicious cycle of unfinished things and an endless search for performance stabilization on top of a potentially spaghetti code that they themselves created. And we, the users, will buy into that hope.
But I’m getting tired.
But what I don’t get is what sort of weirdness was possibly going on with your setup that SU4 was bad and SU5 is good? There seems to be a general consensus (me included) that SU4 ran with barely a stutter to be seen and SU5 is a slideshow in anything that wasn’t made by PMDG
There are so many variables at play. The users system & and its configuration, the plane, the scenery, the weather.
I had a 1.5 hour long flight over SE Australia earlier in the FSW Lancair Legacy, and I got 60fps the whole way, and no stutters, either on takeoff, or landing.
A few days ago I took off in the same plane from LOWI, and I had my first ever stutters on takeoff. Never saw it again for the rest of the flight though, including landing.
I have had no issues going from SU4 to SU5. C172, Vision Jet, HJet, BATC, PCL VR.
If I did a blind A/B test with the same flight in VR with SU4 and SU 5 I wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference. Not everyone is having issues with SU5. ![]()
Well I have turned down a lot of my settings and noticed that today there are quite a bit of panning stutters happening in the sim with SU5. Anybody else experiencing this? Post a lot of fluctuations with the fps.
A bit of topic. There is a nice reporting at flight sim.to which could be quite useful to log and analyze grafic related performance issues
It may be a general consensus here in the forums since folks typically come here if they have an issue. But it certainly isn’t in the multitude of group flights I join throughout the week with Flyers totaling over a hundred collectively. Nobody is having these issues there. The Sim is the most complex program the typical gamer is exposed to and unless you’re buying a pre-made commercial gaming PC, every hardware and software combination configuration is different.
