[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 6 Feedback (PC/Xbox/PS5)

My biggest issue is that the full release notes for 6.1 - [Update: now on all platforms] Sim Update 6.1 [1.8.16.0] Now Available

don’t mention any improvements for Xbox or PC - only for PS5. ( “fixed Play Station 5 memory allocator which was causing performance/rendering issues on this platform) But for Xbox the sim has improved drastically - does that mean the same memory allocator fix worked for Xbox? whilst there have obviously been changes in performance observed on PC (not the drastic improvement we’ve seen on Xbox but again has the memory allocator fix changed some PC parameters as well?). So clearly the provided notes don’t tell us enough about what has actually been changed - and that is not so good. I like improvements when they are planned, I’m not so keen on accidental ones. And I’m not so keen on release notes that are too high level - the implication with these release notes is that the Hotfix patch is platform specific to fix stability and performance issue - but the delayed release (about a week?) to PC and Xbox suggests there’s a bit more going on. The lack of detail suggests there isn’t enough control or understanding, which is a bit worrying. Better communication would help with issues like this.

There’s definitely some degradation in memory in 6.1.

Synaptic a220 I can’t even get past updating the nav data without the disabled avionics message :sob:.

Before 6.1 that never happened. it’s never been great on the Xbox X but I could get it to update without that happening.

But the distant and semi distant scenery/terrain is the biggest let down for me. Some parts of the world are better than others the newer the scenery the better it is.

Hopefully they improve it in the near future.

Il be buying a PC before the end of the year so can’t wait to spend hours messing with settings

I just had an awful experience with the Sim last night. First time in months that the Sim runs that poorly. Stutters everywhere, terrain degradation, LOD problems, etc.

I have to try again today, but looks like 6.1 has a worse performance than 6.0? Hopefully was an insulated case.

Xbox Series X. BKSQ Cessna Caravan.

Got my first CTD since switching to PC today. Descending through FL320 into Stockholm ESSA (world update) from Birmingham in the PMDG 737-800

MSFS 20/24 daily PC user since 2022, GA free flight with mostly medium and a few high settings on 4k resolution locked at 30 fps. Until SU5, I’d been able to fine tune settings to create a mostly smooth running sim.. on a 3060 12gb, 16g RAM, 12400 PC. And yeah, SU4 was amazing for me.

SU5 was the end of 4k resolution. Suddenly no matter what moderate setting used (LOD, trees, etc) could prevent some truly halting visuals - stutters that seemed more disruptive even when FPS only dropped in the 27-28 range. Sometimes the session would start smooth, but always progressively get worse the after 10-15 minutes.

I changed to 2k resolution and pushed the monitor further back, and smooth visuals returned, with PC now future proof against performance degradations that come and go with sim updates. Some avionics weren’t as easy to read, but that’s OK. 4k was a luxury I could go without on this middling PC.

SU6/6.1 was the real surprise, where now the stuttering fps drops happen even with supposed headroom gained switching to 2k. Once FPS drops during a session, even lowering TLOD to 50 has a minimal effect. I can’t go lower than this. DLSS super performance is a blurry mess. LOD 50 and trees on low is stepping back 10 years in visual quality.

Something Asobo changed over the last few months has had a significant effect on the way this PC can handle visuals in the sim. I’m pretty bummed, and hopefully they can sort out the issues effecting many of us. MSFS has so much potential.

I’ve got a similar spec pc to you - same GPU, lesser CPU but more RAM - and definitely noticing reduced fps from SU5.1 through SU6 and into SU6.1

X Box X 1.18.16.0 - default C152 with addon livery, live weather (but mostly clear), live traffic (but settings reduced to Low in Graphics menu (along with the other options)).

Flew from Flightbeam’s KSFO (disabled gayas) to Spinoza’s KMOD… today I got another screen freeze – this time just before touchdown.

I decided to leave it there to see what would happen and it eventually went to the X Box ‘desktop’ (aka Home).

I will disable all addons just to see but this version appears to have an intermittent problem the others didn’t…

SU4 on X box X was a DREAM.

Since then not so much , def a lot worse . Daily user here , maybe for consoles only we can regress back to SU4? I would in a heartbeat .

I literally took this wing shot from my iPhone to my monitor on SU4. X box X . I don’t get anything near like it anymore :frowning: look at that LOD . Not since :frowning:

This evening I did a flight to Innsbruck from London and CTDed after landing and looks like a cartoon , like GTA or something…

I could barely make out the runway till about 1 mile away , then it CTDted . I don’t know who is supposed to test this thing , but it’s clearly not being on all platforms before release . Sad , as since SU4 it showed so much potential and I was so excited till it was clearly messed with and then not tested . I simply don’t get it at all , how anyone can see that below is progress is absolutely beyond me. I’ve seen with my own eyes how the sim can run and boy was SU 4 fantastic , literally mind dropping visually stunning (as you can see below) to this several updates later . Does anyone actually sit down with an x box , PS 5 and PC and actually run a few flights before release ?? And think yeah okay, this is is good ? If so they need an eyesight check. Or worse , maybe get someone who can actually do the job . I am so frustrated with this sim as I’ve seen how could it could be yet messed with and then not tested to the point I’m losing interest and hope just like the devs who can’t even load a flight on console and check it . Sorry but someone has to say it . The evidence is below . 2020 runs soooo much better on my series X than 6.1, but SU4 absolutely surpassed it . Not no more . Now it’s the opposite .

As I mentioned in another post, SU 6.1 on Xbox Series X has been a significant step forward for me in terms of smoothness and LOD.
I’ve never seen such detailed landscapes, and the stuttering during the final approach phase has disappeared.
Taxiing at airports is finally smooth, and the tarmac textures are much improved.
You probably have a setting that needs tweaking, or perhaps some add-ons are causing issues.
I only have a few liveries, three third-party airports, and a couple of sound packs installed.
I haven’t experienced any crashes; aside from the terrible ground traffic control, the frequent ATC nonsense, and those nauseating black lines on the water—which for some reason they won’t fix—everything seems to work quite well.
Admittedly, I only fly short routes (two hours max), but I have no issues with the PMDG 737-800 or the iniBuilds A321.
Even when constantly switching views inside the cockpit or looking out the window at the wing, I don’t notice any stuttering.
I tried the 747 and it was a disaster, but it’s well known that it isn’t optimized—or perhaps it’s just too big for the console.
The stunning LOD in the photos you posted is exactly what I’m seeing now with SU 6.1.

It’s so weird, we all have the same hardware Xbox X/s. But everyone’s experience is different.

It blows my mind

I find the inconsistency quite baffling too. It can also vary from one day to the next too. One day it can look and perform amazingly, but the next it can be a blurry mess and performance terrible.

MS servers? It would explain a lot.

If you fly in a place with photogrammetry/world/city update coverage one day, it’ll look better. If you fly in an area where there is no PG the next day, it will look awful. See this post. I’m seeing it more and more now, I think this might be paydirt.

I’ve put down the sim until they can fix the sudden pop-in/stuttering when panning behind you in the VC. It’s very annoying that every time I’m looking out the window and look behind me, there’s a stutter involved. It seems to me like the SU6 wasn’t as steam ironed as I would’ve hoped, there’s still quite a bit of wrinkles.

I’m tired of hoping on the next SU, but let’s see what SU7 brings.

X Box X flying default C152 aerial advertising version with default livery; live weather (very few clouds); live traffic on.

I disabled all addons except Flightbeams KSFO and reset the cache. I then had to change planes back to the c152 because it auto switched me the C172. Went and flew in the Big Bend world update area and as I came in for a landing it crashed again -

I guess Ill disabled KSFO and try a different plane?? I cant believe anyone ion X Box X isnt having at least some trouble with this 6.1 ‘program’

Can’t complain about the most things on my side BUT a huge problem is the bad photogrammetry (around the world no need to talk about some regions don’t even have one).

And the light shafts of the planes are horrible foggy and in combination with the runway light bloom.. I can’t see the runway itself while touching down at night.

Today I disabled my last addon - Flightbeam’s KSFO and reactivated Gaya’s version. I reset the cache again and attempted to fly the Pipistrel Virus but its engine will not stay running from cold and dark for me on my X Box X. So I switched to the gyrocopter and flew around the Big Bend area again - starting and ending at the same airport where it froze before. Other than the Virus not working, today was uneventful.

6.1 has issues. I do think part of it may be settings.

I usually run with airport services OFF.

For the first time since SU4, my performance is dialed in. I loaded in at NYC to see what my fps would be when under stress, then capped it just below that threshold. It worked like a charm.

Interesting point about the interview.

Jorg stated that he actively reviews feedback and videos, and when he sees real problems he takes screenshots and sends them to the team.

If that’s the case, then we have two possible explanations for why so many long-standing basic issues remain unfixed for so long:

  1. These problems are somehow not being seen, despite being widely reported with clear visual evidence.
  2. They are being seen and forwarded, but are not being prioritized or acted upon.

Either way, the result for users is the same — the same core issues keep surviving update after update.

It would be useful to hear more concrete information on how feedback that is repeatedly documented with screenshots and widely supported by the community is actually handled once it reaches the team.

I completely agree with what was said about the hazy light beams coming from the landing lights; even in excellent visibility, it’s as if they create fog.
As for the photogrammetry, I believe they are still working on it.
Keep in mind that until a few weeks ago, the LOD was terrible—on Xbox, though I imagine on PC and PS5 as well.
There has been a significant increase in detail across Italian territory, including the cities.
I’d like to think it will improve further in future releases.
I also hope they fix the ATC, which currently has a huge number of bugs.
