[Polls] World Update XVIII: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

With LOWI by ORBX I now has two Ski Jumps and Europa Bridges. Hope ORBX will fix it. The POIs that come with the WU look nicer than the ones by ORBX though

There’s been no fixes incoming for Orbx GB (N/C/S) POI packs yet after WU17, so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

On the loading screen, there are ā€œnew landing challengesā€ and ā€œnew bush tripā€.. but I’m not able to see them.
I have downloaded everything in the content-manager, and so..
so, are there really some new activities, or not?
it was the same with the previous world-update…

Problem with this question is that we dont know what you actually have downloaded.
To have all the things in the WU you need to go to the marketplace and find and download and install it.
Its nothing automatic.
So when you say you have downloaded everything, have you done this?

If you have… then idk.

ahhh it was only the mandatory update… grr…
sorry, my bad…

real Time and Weather in the Alps still show to much snow at a lot places, wonder if this ever get a fix?
i get the feel it is more bad after the SU

I decided to reinstall the latest WU on my XBX just in case I had issues initially. sadly, I’m still suffering with EDDM, especially the lack of terminal buildings. I don’t have any 3rd party content and I don’t use a RC.

I’m sure there should be some terminal buildings here somewhere…

I’ve just go no idea where to go next for a solution.

Even the central atrium has decided to disappear…

Well, well. My only thought here was that the service providing the data must be missing bits. I turned on multiplayer and selected Eastern USA, and the terminals and atrium have appeared as well as the tower crane…

The most complete version I’ve seen is when I have West USA as my Multiplayer Server - even after disabling MP.

are they using OSM ? I’m pretty sure they do in remote places like Africa but in my home area in south Germany it doesn’t seem so:
some watchtowers are missing, they shoud at least be placed as generic structures.

I’m somewhat confused. Aren’t these servers merely for MP? The actual data is streamed from the closest server to your location. That’s something you cannot manually choose I believe. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

I’d agree, but my testing seems to say otherwise. I’ll go back to automatic later and have another go.

Right, just set MP back on, selected automatic (Northern Europe) and all the terminal buildings have gone again so I’ll be sticking with the USA for now…

For my home region (lower austria), the improvement of DEM and satellite images is fantastic.

Before, satellite images where partly so bad that there were many forrests not detected. So landscape was quite empty.

Now there are trees everywhere (which is correct) and 6-8 years newer data!

It would be far more real if it includes the first cable care in grinderwa of swissland !

I switched servers and there was no change. I also did a speed check and accessed other sites with no issues. This has happened before and I thought it was just server load. I did manage to get the update after I restarted the sim so I believe it to be something in the code. Thanks for the input.

Same here, my Xbox X has the missing terminal buildings, but changing the server brings them back. (Not using multiplayer.)
My PC doesn’t have that problem, working fine with any server. (Using multiplayer.)

So there’s something going on here and I’m not losing the plot. Let’s hope it’s just some global server synchronisation issue that will get sorted eventually.

For WU18, the bush trips are:

  • The Alpine World of Switzerland
  • Germany’s Coast and the Rhine
  • Austria - land of mountains and music

and the landing challenges are:

  • Peenemunde, Germany (EDCP)
  • Trieben (LOGI), Austria
  • Ambri (LSPM), Switzerland

Hey all
I consider the new WU18 Swiss aerial imagery a huge step into the wrong direction.
Many areas look way worse eventough the maps are a bit more recent indeed.
why is MS/Asobo using poor data instead of the FREE, PUBLIC, much better data?

I’m NOT talking about the TIN/photogrammetry areas like Zürich or Bern.
I’m talking about the majority of Switzerland with normal aerial images. Probably comming from Bing.

The new maps have a MASSIVE yellow/green tint. it’s really bad. Especially when compared to the rather good colorgrading of the TIN areas.

Check out the following example. Coordinates: 47.31577, 8.475676

In the sim:

Unsharp, green/yellow, pretty poor in general.

Bing Maps:

Bing Maps obviously also with a bad colour tint, but not as bad as in the sim.
Seems to be the same data tough. Pretty unsharp.

SwissTopo official swiss government FREE/PUBLIC data:

I think it speaks for itself. MILES better than what Bing / the sim has.

Ok so yeah, Bing/the sim might be 6 months more recent, but who cares when the quality is soo bad.

The main issue here is:
This much better SwissTopo data is public and available for Microsoft/Asobo. They could use it in the sim and I think they did for the first Swiss Update from Summer 2021.
But now, they switched to the much poorer Bing Data. Blurry, and with a terrible yellow / green tint.

So sad.
Especially when the much better data for the whole country of Switzerland is out there and they could just use it.

I don’t get it.
Especially because they seem to use the official Swiss goverment DEM/elevation data, but then their own Bing maps aerials instead of also the arials of the swiss government.
This leeds to more issues like aerials not correctly mapped to the DEM in mountains like SƤntis, Pilatus, and many others.

This is a huge disappointment and hopefully they will fix this until MSFS2024 is released.

Is it free for commercial use? I’d be very surprised, but if it is, credit to the Swiss Government

This comes from a smaller tree addon.
