Poor Performance with 13900K? [SOLVED]

I am getting much worse performance than the example in this video despite nearly identical system specs
This video shows about 80fps and I get 30fps

My system is
i9-13900K 6.2GHz o.c. | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | 24GB GeForce RTX 4090 | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5

I’m running the Ultra preset at 2160x3840 with Motion Blur Off
NCP settings all default.

Maybe you can post a screenshot of your dev mode FPS counter?

Ok here are some shots of my settings. I’m indeed CPU limited

I am able to run the Intel XTU utility and stress test the CPU at 100%, getting an overclock of 6.2GHz on the main core. My CPU test through Passmark seems to be within range. Other games like DCS perform really well at 80-120 fps.

My system is almost identical to yours, only difference is my memory is a generation newer than yours. That shouldn’t make much difference.

Switch on DLSS, Frame Generation to On and Reflex Low Latency to On and you should get what I do: 60fps in cities and up to a peak of 120fps in the countryside. And that’s using Google Maps at high LOD and Terrain LOD set to 400.

Just for testing purposes, I would baseline your performance with TLOD and OLOD at 100, air traffic off, and DX11 instead of DX12Beta. Then add back one by one to where you are now.

Your manipulator thread is really high for some reason. Not sure what causes that…

No. Since I’m CPU limited I figure that wouldn’t make any difference.

It will. Try it.

I tried those DLSS features, they don’t make any difference for me.

Try setting all traffic setting sliders to 0 if you haven’t already. The ground aircraft can hit performance very hard

That helps a bit to turn off the traffic. But it doesn’t get me 90fps it adds maybe 5-10. On the runway I’m getting 35-50 which is actually ok for me. But not what the guy in this video is getting. That’s a mystery.

Frame generation should sort this out for you if you are on a 40 series card, note, I am unsure if the in-game develop overlay for performance shows the generated frames, but external tools like Afterburner will.

I am on a 12900k, DDR4 with a 4090 FE and maintain over 100fps at 4k with frame generation on. Without that on, in certain areas I am CPU limited and stuck at 45fps, with it on, sky rockets to over 100, note these are fake frames but at least are smooth.

I generally notice improved performance with fresh installs after hardware upgrades. maybe some layers are removed somehow

This is a fresh install on a new machine

Aha I think I see what’s happening. Sure I don’t think the in-game frame counter knows what DLSS is doing. I’ll test again with another tool.

This is not normal you should not even activate the dlss given your configuration. please take a picture of your task manager in performance

The video shows him using DLSS 3 so his frames are doubling Which means u are getting the same frames he is. Also looks like his static aircraft is set to 0, which helps get higher frames. So all in all your experience looks to be similar to what is in the video. I don’t have the13900/4090. I have the 5800x3d/3080 and get pretty close to that experience. I can’t run TLOD at 325 over London or LA at low altitudes in an airliner. If a 13900 can do that, I want one.

despite the numbers, does it ‘feel’ smooth?

dont use ingame fps counter
DLSS3 FG is not recognized!!!
Use MSI Afterburner or Nvidia Overlay!
