Interesting, I may just give that a shot. I’m not holding my breath that it’ll be helpful, and it sounds like others have already found that out the hard way, but might make for an interesting experiment. Thanks!
The developers talked about that during the last event on twitch, they said they already tried to use all cores on the CPU but there is still work to do. I have the same issue and I’m wait for the patch ASAP.
you trust a manager.. the same which told us that we got a final release , but we got a early access version ![]()
we will see if its out ![]()
update: found an article which good explain (link) diff in DX11 / 12…
This means that in a very short time ( mid November ) we could get DirectX 12 Ultimate support on MSFS when the new Xbox is launched.
And, yes, that looks very promising and will bring a complete new experience to us all.
I feel this explains the overall issue I was experiencing with 1440p and the rtx 3080 and cpu bottleneck
I not expect a jump from 40fps to 144fps or absolut nonsense 300fps

DX12 just make it able that multicore systems “can” ! ( depends on developers ) better used and bottlenecks because one main-thread can be avoided. Then also new graphic-cards can fully/better used if the CPU is strong enought .
As already mentioned.. in Xplane11 the change to Vulcan was 50-100% more fps ( in fact more in direction to 50% ) but also a completly more smoother feeling ( not this micro-stuttering ).
Thus, if we get exactly this two points after the switch to DX12, then
- users with a new 3080/90 should get much higher fps where GraphicCard Power is needed ( of course, as say’d , if there CPU is not 10 years old
) - others should max out the CPU usage and we no longer have these stuttering e.g. near big airports
and with luck also these 50-100%fps jump ( from 40 to 60 would be a very good result )
– note : this also mean, less people need to buy a new GraphicsCard only for MSFS ( and I’am not sure whether this is, what the pc-industry want
) - and yes, of course, dx12 also offers new effects, but this might be compleltly unimportant at this moment
I’m talking about DirectX 12 Ultimate…
Read everything about the difference here with the standard DX12
realy nobody needs the features of DX12 Ultimate..
We don’t need those lovely features from Directx12 ultimate? and why is that?
it is just marketing gag, nothing else… similar to 300fps monitors… users should buy a new graphicscard…
not understand me wrong,.. there is nothing wrong with new technics like VRS or api for raytracing, but this is not what the main issue fixes => the one single main-thread issue
ok, well, let’s wait and see…
Reading that made my head hurt, and I’m an uber-nerd to begin with. Yikes!!
and my hope was exact the opposite
( to my head hurt )
because this one sentence:
“One of the core advantages of low-level APIs like DirectX 12 and Vulkan is improved CPU utilization.”
That is certainly encouraging, especially as it specifically applies to the “MainThread” issue being discussed here. But the article as a whole got way deep in the weeds. I understood a lot of it, probably more than most non-devs, but it was a lot to swallow. I bookmarked it and will probably read it 10 or 12 more times eventually. Or maybe not lol…
I have the 10900K and I’m still main thread limited. The game is definately not optimized. AI traffic, AT ALL, kills this sim eventually.
It does not apply to mainthread. It handles everything (physics etc.). Renderer is separated from that and has it’s own millisecond counter in developer mode. So basically dx12 only gives visuals options but no performance. This has been stated in interview and I am confident that developer knows it a lot better than even thousand forum posters.
Your CPU is the problem, although being a top end cpu, this game is basically set for future CPUs.
I am in the same boat with a 3080 also, but I knew this and didn’t upgrade from my 2700x just yet, and will be wating for new Ryzen lineup and will be getting a 5900x. My suggestion would be the same, grab a 5900x when it comes out, since you got a mobo which will already be compatible.
Something must be wrong with your setup, I get 60 fps with my I 9 10900k and 2080Ti at Ultra settings with GA aircraft.
Nothing wrong with his setup, you just have a superior CPU when it comes to single threaded workloads, so it would be obvious you would get better performance regardless of GPU, as the limit being hit is “mainthread” not GPU.
