Pop-up Window Resolution Issue in VR

I think Your case is different from mine.
For me, low resolution setting for pc made the problem and easily solved by adopting the highest resolution setting.
Unlikely your pc resolution is already set high enough…

I have the same resolution problem here using Rift S and Microsoft Store version. It’s not just the pop up window resolution though because it also affects the player a/c name label resolution too. Pressing TAB in VR does nothing for me but it could just be that my key assignments are different. However, the panel reset function is available from the menu bar either in PC or VR modes. Nevertheless, resetting the panels does not cure the problem for me. What I have discovered though is that the pop up window resolutions in VR seem to have become tied to the PC screen resolution. If I run in PC windowed mode and reduce the window size to a minimum to reduce graphics resource, then in VR the pop up window resolution is awful. This is clearly a bug introduced during the last update.

Update: I can confirm that if you’re running VR with the main PC screen windowed (I guess most VR users do that) then you will find that the pop up windows and text resolution in VR are now impacted by the window size you choose on the PC screen. I have now idea why this has happened under the latest update because if by design, then it’s a completely unintuitive way for the user to scale text before switching to VR mode. So, for example, to obtain readable text in the VFR map, or even just the user a/c nameplates in VR, you now need to remember to maximise the window before launching into VR mode. However, even stranger than that, the text in VR doesn’t appear to scale with the map. Hence, as you zoom out the text simply swamps the map beneath. I used to prefer using the “VFR map for VR” addon but this resolution/scaling issue has messed this up too.

Yep, I confirm everything you state in your post.

Unfortunately, I like to keep the game window to its minimal size in order to save the more GPU I can to feed my VR headset, which yields good results.
Now, I get awful labels and broken popups.

This is troubling as all of this was working fine before the latest update. Also, it makes me wonder if they tested the VR version before releasing as this issue came out instantly after trying it. Not an obscure setting or hard to reproduce condition.

Let’s hope it will be fixed soon…

It might be a bug or not. I thought it was somewhat intended to solve the hard-to-read VFR map letter problem without touching VR setting itself. For me, the result is not bad. The resolution of pop-up windows is better than before even though it looks like an odd trick.

I also had believed lower settings of monitor side could bring better performance in VR and set my PC resolution 640*480. However, after the last update, I was forced to increase PC resolution because of the above issue and consequently lost that belief. I couldn’t feel any drop of the VR performance even with higher PC resolution.

For me, this post was quite helpful in enhancing VR performance. Wish you give a try if not yet.
Stutter Fix - Sim Update 3 - #3 by craigeaglefire

I have the same issue and have filed a bug report and hope that everyone does the same.

I also was running my MSFS desktop window windowed and as small as possible but that all changed with Sim Update 3.

The VR Toolbar windows are unreadable and when you resize them it does not help but the name plates seem to be OK.

If I use the Windows resize box on the MSFS window then the VR windows seem to look correct but the VR nameplates are unreadable.

If I tell the sim to use fullscreen in the PC section then the VR windows and nameplates seem the same as before Sim Update 3.

I stream VR on Twitch and did a quick stream showing this that I provided a link when I submitted my bug report. My Twitch name is same as here SparkerInVR.

I would call the regression and because of that think a hot fix would be in order but time will tell what they do but know my streaming VR with MSFS is over until this is resolved.

I suddenly have the following problem in VR mode. For example, if I call up the settings for live weather, clear sky, etc., I have the wrong resolution. D.d it’s all drawn out. The same also with the map display and the other menus. Everything worked fine until suddenly the problem occurred. I guess what was done after the little update.

If someone has the same problem, thank you for feedback or even a solution to the problem. Otherwise everything works fine and it’s fun to fly with VR.

The answer is already in the above posts.
1st: go to setting menu/General/Graphic/pc (not vr).
2. Check full screen mode if your existing setting is windowed mode.
3. Choose higher resolution (e.g. 640x480 to 1920x1080).
If your problem has nothing to do with the pc side resolution setting, I have no answer. Good luck :+1:

This is not a fix, cause it is lowering a FPS in VR mode

For me, there isn’t significant change in speed and smoothness although I haven’t checked fps precisely. Logically, what is shown on the monitor is just mirror image and I don’t think it will have meaningful impact on the sim performance. If not, let me know.

Hi,

I have the same problem with the low resolution of the pop up windows in VR since updating to version 1.14.5.0.
Tried to reset the resolution as suggested above, but no joy. Opened a ticket with zendesk.

I have a Reverb G2 and sometimes the popup windows + World Map are fine and other times the text is horrible to read, so this is definately the sim and not the headset.

Also sometimes text is blurry, othertimes is low resolution and also big - it seems to degrade differently. This happened last night as well, yet when I tried to demonstrate this last week it was fine again, super frustrating.

I believe this topic is describing your problem yes. I can confirm at least this is happening for me in the Reverb G2, (fuzzy|low reslution|large) text in popups (and World Map) but it doesn’t happen all the time. I probably need to pay attention more to see if it’s something I’m doing which is triggering the issue.

Thanks @Woodier72, this worked for me changing from window to full screen. However I didn’t have to change the screen resolution to fix the text visibility just the full screen.

Nice to hear that. You might already have enough screen resolution. Good flying!

Das hat bei mir alles nicht funktioniert. Ich bin überzeugt das dies mit dem letzten Update zusammenhängt.
