Possible problem because tried a mod months ago

I installed months ago a mod downloaded from a freeware popular web page, and the mod was promising to get better textures using google maps. I just used it for no more than 1 hour and I uninstalled.
I am experiencing problems to launch MSFS 2020 (it just open MS Store window instead). I have wrote this problem in the Flight Simulator discord community-support and they gave me the clue that the problem must be related to the installation of that mod.
The problem is that installing the game does not fix the problem. I have read about and apparently you solve the possible problems related to this mod deleting two lines in the host file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc), but in my case the file does not have those lines. I have even deleted the file “host” and still have the same problem.

Just too many problems with this game.

This is one reason I stay away from any mod using google maps. If it’s down to something the mod has done it’s not really this games fault.
You should really go to the person who made the mod, to see if they can help you out in getting it all working again.

Out of interest are you editing that file with admin control as I believe more stuff shows up with admin control.

You probably need to repair or reinstall windows to fix your computer and then install FS2020.

This isn’t too hard to solve.

In your PC, go to Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Delete the hosts file.
Restart PC, restart sim.

All should be good.

The vanilla game is fine. If you choose to install a mod and it borks the game that’s down to you.

Everything tikkety-boo here.

Well, I don’t know if the mod is really the cause of the problem. People experiencing problems with the mod say that the problems they have are related to things happening once they are into the game (in my case is that I can not open the game, just show me the MS Store window).

I have fixed the problem in the past using MediaCreationTool21H2 (it reinstall/repair Windows 10), but the fix last only for a day, and the next day I have again the same problem.

I have deleted the host file, and it does not fix the problem.

I said here the problem could be related to the use in the past of the mod, because that was what said to me Flight Simulator discord community-support. But If I should bet, I bet the problem is related to MS Store itself.

Maybe a should uninstall MSFS 2020 not in the normal way, but deleting some hidden files too? (normally programs leave some traces in the system even after uninstalling them).

I have met some people in different forums that have installed the same mod, just for curiosity like me, to test and compare, and they do not experience this problem. Maybe the don’t have the problem because they bought the Steam version of this sim? Maybe because the mod is not the reason of the problem?

Looking for the cause of this error is like looking for a needle in a haystack (I have tried everything in the past months). I appreciate the interest and tips from people in all this time, but none work.

Did you try any of te Windows cleanup routines?

sfc /scannow

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

They’ve solved issues for me in the past.
EDIT: You must run as administrator.

You mention the MS-store could try resetting the Microsoft store see if that helps maybe. Forgot how to do it now, but quick google should help you out.

I suggest checking your EXE.XML file in the root flightsim folder and check if there are entries for mods you have removed, or just don’t want to launch with msfs

Also I’ve installed (still installed but rarely use) that same mod and haven’t had the issue you describe. There is obviously some other issue at play
