Unfortunately - very unfortunately - even this method does not preserve the zoom factor for a particular view angle.
I used the top row numbers.
I set up a view for left wing with zoom = 70
I used CTRL+ALT+0 to lock the view
When I used CTRL + 0 to go to the view it was back to zoom = 50
So in conclusion the numpad and the toprow view hotkeys remember the view direction & camera tilt but you cannot set an angle-specific view zoom factor.
I don’t know what ‘zoom factor’ is. I use freelook to position the camera pan/tilt. Then I xoom in with the mouse wheel. I can also use slew camera view (mapped to my keyboard arrow keys) to move the camera vertically or horizontally.
I save that view with Ctrl+Alt+Top Row Number.
I then recall that view by simply pressing that number on the numeric keypad. No other keypress needed.
This works flawlessly just like the numpad view keys so thanks for this as I now now in addition to the numpad I have more view keys available on the top row.
Set a view by adjusting your camera angle and using arrow keys as normal.
Now press + on the keyboard (or as you said zoom in with mouse wheel) to zoom in the view.
Now press Ctrl+Alt+Top Row Number to set the view (lets say its Ctrl+Alt+7)
Go to cockpit view
Press 7 to return to the view you just made. It will not be zoomed in. It wont lock in the amount you zoomed in (or out).
This is what I’m after. The reason being that (for me) the wing is looking too stretched out and my A320 wing feels like its a 777 wing. I want to zoom in a bit more to make it look like reality.
There is a setting in the menu that lets you lock in the zoom but that opens another worm can . Because that setting is applied to ALL views.
Very strange. That works perfectly for me. The view is zoomed in exactly as it was when I created the custom view. For example, I like to have a view that shows a closeup of my gauge cluster. I set that view in the cockpit, save it, and then I can press the NumPad keys to switch between my default pilot view and the zoomed in view of the gauges. Do you by chance have a keyboard binding set up that is interfering with the custom views?
Oh!? Your reply is actually encouraging because it points to a problem in my game or something I have done.
I already have preset views set up on the numpad - could that be interfering? What I will try is to delete the camera.cfg file and then set up the top row commands as in your instructions! Will let you know how it went. Im not at the gaming PC now but will be later!
