Possible to Use SimBrief for ILS Flight Plan?

I want to setup a flight plan in SimBrief for a landing at Runway 28R at KORD using an approach transition. I have no problem setting up the transition, but I can’t seem to figure out how to include the ILS aspect. In the MSFS flight planner, an entry like “RW 28R” is common as the final leg, but SimBrief does not recognize “RW 28R” as a fix/waypoint. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

SimBrief is more of a route planner rather than an approach planner. It gets you in the vicinity of the airport. The instrument approach in use at any particular airport is going to depend on the weather and what the approach controller assigns you. For flights where I’m acting as my own ATC I plug in the desired approach into the FMC after I’m airborne.

You can use the SIMBRIEF in the FBW A320NX developer version only
plan your route in simbrief and generate ( you dont have to load )
go to MCDU
select MCDU MENUE
then ATSU (L2 button )
then AOC MENU ( R2 button )
then INIT/PRES (L1 button )
then INIT DATA REQ (R5 button )
so the route is loaded into the MCDU
then in Ppree F-PLN button on MCDU and select Departure
and Arrival

I guess the only problem with loading a Simbrief plan directly into the MCDU is that we can’t pick the gate we want to park at the destination.

Thanks for taking the time to give your feedback. You guys are obviously more up to speed with flight planning than I am. I appreciate your help.

hi , quite interesting. I m a navigraph and simbrief user…usually what i do is flight planning with simbrief…and i put manually the fligh plan into the mcdu in the a320 dev version…so i m using navigraph then the see the sids and stars, and ils for frequencies, routing etc…(i dont put the route in navigraph, just there to see the route)…i did following your instructions, but its says “'no simbrief user”…what did i do wrong…and also on the tablet in the plane, what do i have to use, lick simbrief, or link mcdu, because the flight plan is not showing up on the tablet…thanks for helping…

I’m doing mine slightly differently. I use SimBrief just for it to be integrated into my flight log like Volanta, Pacx, etc. But in the sim, I still use the built-in World Map flight planning tool to capture the active runway and wind direction, then set my departing runway and arriving runway and have it to generate the SID and STAR in the SimBrief. Then I go back to my world map and set the same SID and STAR.

I do this because I want to park at the gate that I want at the destination, and SimBrief can’t do it. Coincidentally, if you set an Approach on the world map, it would disregard your destination gate either. So I have to keep the Approach as Automatic, then when I get IFR clearance when I start at the gate, I choose my approach in the MCDU to override it.

You have to enter your SIMBRIEF ID into the MCDU
press MCDU MENUE
then OPTIONS ( R5 button )
then AOC (L1 button )
then SIMBRIEF (L5 button)
then insert your USERNAME/PILOT ID

thanks…just tried … is ok now…but i think i wont use that tablet, it s useless to me…no route shown…i dont see the purpose of that tablet…

thansk for sharing…sounds intersting…by the way, since you are an expert in 320 flying…while descending, it apperas ENTER DEST DATA…on the fmdu…what do we have to enter ? thanks

That’s about filling in the APPR page. If you go to the PERF Page then press the next phase until you get to the APPR phase, you’ll see a blank QNH, TEMP, and WIND field. You just need to fill them in according to the weather at your destination. Just request the metar, print it out in the cockpit, grab the paper, and you can copy them to put into those fields. Once they’re entered, the ENTER DEST DATA should disappear and you’re configured for landing. Because these fields are used by the flight computers to calculate your airspeed for each flaps configuration as well as your approach speed. That way, you don’t need to override using selected airspeed during approach. Let the A/THR handle that for you.

thanks Neo for the quick answer…i didnt know that you can “print” the metar and grab the paper…will have to find out how to get the metar and print all that…and then fill them up…thanks for the explanation…

You can watch this video to learn how to use the METAR request and print it out.

great video (as usual)…very well and clearly explained…will try on my next flight this afternoon…thanks again…happy flying

Don’t thank me, that’s not my video… but I do follow his videos because I’m still learning too, and his videos have been very educational. Enjoy.

if you are navigraph subcriber you can use their app on the iPad …
you can then load the eg just created route from simbrief … and use like a moving map … but with looots more functionality its really helpfull.
( sometimes I use it on long haul when I use eg the “FsSimRateBandit” to speed up my flight over “boring” seas …while sitting in my garden  )
