This is my ‘temporary’ simpit. It’s made from parts of my previous cockpit which was in my back bedroom / office (this setup is temporarily in my front bedroom) and had the 180 degree projector screen that I’ve posted shots of before. I took this down late last year with the intention of quickly renovating the room and then building a new simpit from scratch, but set up this temporary one so I could fly while I built.
Well, for various reasons the new simpit build hasn’t even begun yet, but the Airbus-inspired pedestal you see in this shot is newly-built and should carry over to the new pit.
Currently fitted out with the VirtualFly TQ6 that I use for piston and turboprop aircraft, you can quick-change for the Thrustmaster TCA throttles (single or dual units for 2/4 engines) in about a minute or so. Change control profiles in MSFS and Spad.neXt and I’m ready to fly anything.
The iPad dock at the back lets me use this as a control panel with Air Manager or Spacedesk for type-specific stuff, or just holds and charges my iPad
I’ve been building this for the last few weeks and I’m reasonably happy with how it turned out. Sadly, because I rushed at the start and made the basic frame not quite square, there are lots of not-square bits, but you don’t really notice them unless you’re looking for them
