Potential PSU problem?

Hi,

On 2 occasions now while playing MSFS2024, it has momentarily frozen then rebooted my PC. On both occasions I was flying the Just Flight RJ Professional though I doubt very much whether this is the reason, it’s just that I’ve been using that aircraft a lot recently.
I run the graphics on “High End” or whatever it’s called in the SIM.

The only thing I can think of that would actually reboot the PC is PSU problems. My PC specs are as follows :-

What are anybody’s thoughts as to whether the PSU might be responsible?
Has anybody had an issue like this before?
Could the CPU or GPU be overheating? I doubt this because they should both be up to the job.

Thanks in advance,
Ken.

the only thing i can tell you is that when i had a psu that wasn’t up to the task, what it did was to shut down inmediately… it didnt freeze first, and also it didnt reboot, it was a full shutdown and it was instantaneous

like if i had kicked the plug out of the socket
hope it helps

i see you have a 3060, that might be too much for a 550w psu, so maybe thats it, i dont know really… :frowning:

Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I originally specced this PC for Cubase so it originally had a rubbish GPU, but then I got into MSFS and bought a 3060, so maybe that’s drawing too much power.

Not recently, but I had issues with FSX for years… literally years. It would freeze… sometimes BSOD… sometimes power off. I put it down to FSX, but about 2 years later I bought a larger PSU as part of a staged upgrade. I got the PSU first and put it in, and to my amazement, all of those issues disappeared. PSU isn’t to be underestimated, and a relatively cheap upgrade.

Thanks for the info.
I’m trying to run the SIM with reduced graphics quality which I can see is putting less pressure on both CPU ands GPU. Not ideal but if that stops the crashes I’ll crank the graphics quality back up to see if that causes them again. Not sure what that would prove but might be useful info.

So you are using a 9900k and a 3060 on a 550W PSU? Too weak of a PSU for your setup

Thanks for the info.
I thought this might be the case. My system seems to be managing so far on the “Medium” graphics setting, but I want to get back to “High End” so it looks like I will have to invest in a new PSU.

Looked at your specs and did some checking, based on your graphics card, the minimum specs for power could range from 650-750w minimum. The CPU is around 100w. Get a higher rated PS.
My old PC on FS2020 had a 550w pwrsup with a GTX 3080 and had same issues. Put a 750w in, no more problems. New PC with RTX 4070Ti s graphics card required a 750w, put in a 1000w and no issues

Thanks for the information.
This is pretty much what I expected, but good to hear it confirmed here.
Marked as solved now, thanks.
