Project Crosskart has changed how I experience MSFS 2024

Project Crosskart revealed something I didn’t expect. I now fly somewhere, land, and spend time exploring the destination (city, landscape, fauna etc.) before continuing my journey to a new place. It has made “digital tourism” in MSFS2024 highly immersive: the combo of flying, driving and exploring places has significantly raised the shelf life of the sim for me, and I bet this is the case for others.

I recently flew to Adelaide, drove from the airport into the city, visited the stadiums, followed the freeway into the hills, discovered a small racing circuit and drove laps around it, then returned to the airport before continuing to my next destination.

That experience showed me that MSFS already contains the foundations of something unprecedented: a seamless, planet-scale flight and ground exploration platform.

The driving doesn’t replace flying—it adds more depth to the completed flight at the destination.

Because MSFS is built around a digital twin of Earth, I think continued effort toward improving the ground rendering experience (roads, photogrammetry cleanup, trees, collision, etc.) would unlock an entirely new dimension of exploration without changing the simulator’s identity.

The world that’s been built is too incredible to experience only from a few hundred feet above it…

while in its current state, I will continue to try driving through the rough streets and insane looking blobs that are meant to be trees, and hit invisible walls here and there. I’m also going to continue driving through different landscapes. But man, if cities in photogrammetry can be improved? MSFS would genuinely look incredible.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Take a look at Bijan’s “Venice, Italy” thread. He is upgrading the city, it is beautiful. You will be able to walk around, Canoe through the waterways. I have the Crosskart and love to drive places, take photos and sometimes just look at the most breathtaking scenery (i.e when it is not photogrametry that is :joy:).

Oh, don’t for get to vote for your own thread.

It’s an awesome add-on. It’s a pity that outside bitcoin mining-spec PCs the sim’s photogrammetry renders areas totally undriveable. Maybe I’ll give up on PG and enjoy driving around

Yes I also love to drive around, and while its not perfect its fun to experience the digital world representing our planet. Unfortunately they made rocks now have collision - I would prefer if we could toggle this option on and off. Bridges need to be fixed as well so we can drive over on under them without problems.

So for now I have to stick to mostly roads, and I find the smoothest and detailed ones are represented in the UK, West Europe, North America and Australia, usually the highways.

Drove through Abu Dhabi today (after a road trip out of Dubai). Here’s are some screenshots of exactly what I think is possible. This whole area of the city has fully defined, drivable roads that match the in-game map (see pic inside the Crosskart, top left), multiple incredible handcrafted landmarks, and built-in (non-streamed) assets, yet performance remained excellent with no frame-rate issues. My original post is backed by these pics. So my request is basically To expand on this

screenshot. I’d love to see more cities designed this way—prioritizing continuous road networks, key landmarks, and smooth ground exploration over relying solely on streamed photogrammetry.
