Propeller "strobing" Animation Incorrect

The propeller animation in the simulator is incorrect. It is animated as seen through a camera lens hence the strobing effect. The propeller disc should look more or less solid without all the strobing effect as seen through a camera lens. Never understood why devs put in effects like this. It’s in the same category as lens flares. They are only seen through a camera lens! I’d like this simulator to simulate what I would see with my own eyes, not through a camera.

Thank you.

It’s because at the end of the day this is still a game where the developers will make some stylistic choices that you may disagree with.

Prop textures are easily fixed. Got rid of most of the strobing effect on a repaint of the DA40 I did. Just left a little bit to give the effect of movement. If you are interested in the DA40 with this improvement, then you can check it out here. Just a very basic repaint.

Thank you BilingualHarp7. I’ll give this a go but it would be really cool if the devs fix this as it is a simulator and not a game.

Well then maybe they need to set it up as an option to disable strobing effect like lens flare eh?

I am on the other side where I am willing to accept a ‘cinematic’ looking game. I can see that would be frustrating to people.

I have spent less than 2 hours in a Cessna and honestly don’t remember what a spinning propeller looks like IRL.

Not like this.

I bought a simulator, not a game. Those cinematics make the sim look arcadish IMO and a complete immersion killer.

I feel you. When I want to get into focused sim mode I fly X Plane. I like having both.

It’s basically just a slightly dark disk assuming it’s a common white tipped black prop. The sim exadurates the visibility by a lot : /

It’s really easy to forget it’s there while the engine is running. You need to look really closely and sometimes you still can’t see it depending on the time of day and what’s behind it to contrast. The sim on the other hand… It does NOT let you forget it’s there lol

I also like when I try to look at reference I realize… wait that’s all in camera that’s not going to be accurate.

You can actually get lucky and find some pics taken with certain exposure times that make it look somewhat realistic. This one is pretty close imo. The white tips really stand out from the front like they’re intended to, but alot of the time they weren’t painted on the back so you don’t see that ring from the cockpit IMG_20201203_121128

The prop disc should also reflect light and shadows should be cast on them to make it very realistic

Great example…this is what it should look like!

MODERATOR EDIT: Topic merged from another topic.

Can we please get rid of these unrealistic effects? I feel that the Cessna Caravan has the only realistic prop disc. There is zero interaction between a human eyeball and a propeller/Fan disc,as in frame rate mismatch filming a CRT with a camcorder.

Yes, why does the Cessna Caravan not have this ridiculous effect?

You’ve all got your priorities wrong! I don’t know if they’ve captured the correct spin of a spiders web yet because I have yet to see a web.

The are a few mods available e.g. at flightsim.to for various aircraft like the DA40 which are removing this unrealistic and immersion killing effect.

I wanted to voice my concern for the MSFS prop disc animations looking very outdated. Anyone else notice this as well? The prop disc animations and startup not only run at a much lower FPS than the sim but look 2d and low-res.

An example to compare to that does masterful spin animations is DCS world. The animation motion and disc blur look fantastic and incredibly realistic. Here’s a video I just shot with the new AH-64D:

So comparing this to the MSFS animations and textures looks like night and day and really holds MSFS back from looking hyper-real, imo. I’m hoping MSFS will fix the prop disc and startup animations for their prop planes and helicopters. Just wanted to throw my 2c in.
