I want to bring up an issue many of us may be encountering while playing Career Mode, particularly when managing larger fleets of aircraft. As someone managing a fleet of 65 aircraft, I find the daily maintenance inspections to be a tedious and time-consuming task. The current system requires 7 mouse clicks per aircraft, which translates to nearly 20 minutes of repetitive actions just to ensure my fleet is operational each day.
While I appreciate the realism and detail this adds to the game, I believe there’s room for improvement to make the process more user-friendly without compromising the gameplay experience. Here are a few proposed solutions that could enhance the maintenance system for players with large fleets:
Proposed Solutions
Batch Maintenance Option:
Introduce a feature that allows players to complete maintenance for multiple aircraft simultaneously. This could be as simple as a checkbox system where players select the aircraft needing inspection and execute the maintenance for all selected aircraft with one click.
Maintenance Summary Dashboard:
Add a centralized dashboard where all fleet maintenance statuses are displayed. This dashboard could highlight which aircraft require maintenance and provide a “Complete All” button for streamlined actions.
Auto-Inspect Option
Provide an option for players to automate daily maintenance for aircraft designated as “CREW ON”. This could be toggled on/off in the settings or managed on a per-aircraft basis, allowing for a more hands-off approach to fleet management.
Simplified Maintenance Workflow:
Reduce the number of clicks required for each aircraft’s daily inspection. For example, combine multiple steps into one action or allow a single confirmation click to execute all necessary checks for an individual aircraft.
Fleet Delegation System:
Introduce an in-game mechanic where players can assign an AI “maintenance manager” to handle routine checks for a set fee. This would maintain realism while reducing the player’s workload.
Benefits of These Changes:
Reduces repetitive tasks and saves time for players with large fleets of aircraft.
Improves user experience and keeps the focus on flying and strategic decision-making.
Preserves realism while offering scalable solutions for players with varying fleet sizes.
I’m sure many of us would appreciate any enhancements to make fleet management smoother. I’m eager to hear thoughts from other players and the development team about these suggestions. Let’s work together to make MS Flight Sim 24 even better!
I have 30 planes and there’s no easy way to find the planes that need maintenance.
Please add some way to uniquely identify each plane (could be like a serial number)
Please give me a way to sort planes by operational hours on the airframe
Please allow me to filter planes that need maintenance
Please give me an option to perform mass maintenance
Please give me a way to mass sell planes
Please give me a way to sort planes by value
Also consider adding a wildcard of maintenance making a mistake while fixing the plane that either breaks other things on the plane or causes it to crash. Real life =)
I’m really tired of doing maintenance. In addition to being approximate and unrealistic, it’s also very boring.
Very slow to do.
too much wear and tear and too high costs (1200 cr for tire pressure)
if we replace a tire, the pressure is not automatically reset
if we replace the engine, the oil remains the same as used
with 70 planes in the fleet, it is impossible to generate a decent income if compared to the maintenance costs.
the only “players” who seem to enjoy generating credits to get more expensive planes are those people who use sim rates to cheat the calculation system.
They should simply take a cue from the Euro Truck Simulator 2 system for passive income. I think the career in msfs is dying.
I give up and leave the career to stop uselessly flying hours and hours on planes that no longer interest me.
I’ve resorted to only running the “Update check-up” and anything that says “To maintain” but I’m skipping the bulk “Delegated maintenance” and that’s saved me some…
100% agree. Something needs to be done here. It looks like the system is midways, and I also think it is midways in development. So I believe they have more to come.
I am all in for something more to do during cruises, a company/fleet management through an app in EFB to example would be cool
This is gold. Had a brief panic when it tried to sell all my planes. Making sure a kill command is place is a must for when the commands try to repaint or sell aircraft
@IVRFrancis …FYI: There is a kill command already…
From the script: ^c::ExitApp ; Press "Ctrl+C" at any time to exit the script
You can kill the script at any time by holding Ctrl and pressing the C key, sometimes you may need to do this more than once but it will quit the script and AutoHotkey from running.
If you want to open an issue or discussion from the github repo maybe I can help. I thought I solved all edge cases of it trying to sell planes by mistake. (I have since added a -sellAircraft function though if you ever do want to purge your fleet that’s now available).
Excellent Points and Solutions. OSOBO/Microsoft should appoint you. On a serious note. The Maintenance in this sim is a disaster, especially when you have a huge fleet like me. I’m currently on a Fleet of 96 Planes. It takes way too much time doing maintenance of every single plane, let alone every single Item line maintenance. And you find that overall the status of a plane says Good, but when you go into Items you find that some parts is showing Needs Maintenance. So what is it? This morning I only got Passive Income for 60 planes even though not one single plane was Grounded. Explain that to me…
I went through all four companies to make sure if any of the planes in the four companies had any RED Triangle attached to it, which mean Grounded, but not one single plane is showing grounded. So, how come only 66 planes got passive income? In the beginning of my Career I thought the location of your planes plays a role, but I soon realise it doesn’t. It solely depends on the time you as a player spends in the air that counts.
Maintenance is way to complicated and tedious in executing it. OSOBO/Microsoft must come up with a les complicated and quick solution otherwise Maintenance is killing the fun of Career.
Please design a better maintenance capability in Career mode. It is very difficult to continually slide forwards to your next plane to maintain if you have many of them. I keep losing my place as there is no outwardly visible show of which planes have been maintained and those which have not.
Perhaps a different colour or a giant tick on the ICON to show which have been maintained and a slider which does not always return to the beginning each time a maintained plane is complete.
