1 fps seems extreme! But yeah, VR performance is MUCH worse in 2024 than in 2020. Unfortunately your machine is most likely too weak for it, even more so since it’s a laptop (the laptop versions of GPUs are weaker than their PC counterparts).
My advice would be to get a PC at some point and run 2020 on it until Asobo fixes performance.
Here we are a month or so later. I’m now the owner of a custom built PC and i run 2020 in Ultra VR and 2024 High End VR looks great plays great.
I could push 2024 to Ultra but i do get some frames drop in built up areas and the difference is negligible between ultra and high end VR in 2024.
The landscape still looks rough as hell but that’s out of my control with 1GPS Internet up and down, RTX 4090 etc and 4K VR it’s not always a good looking as you’d wish for.
Oh very nice, looks like you took my advice
Glad it worked out! 2020 is in a pretty great place for high res VR right now, hopefully 2024 will catch up at some point.
I’ve conducted quite a few tests with Quest 3 and PSVR2, matching resolutions for comparison, and PSVR2 always performs poorly. When I get 45 FPS on Quest 3, I only get 30 FPS on PSVR2, even after lowering settings. Additionally, since PSVR2 only supports 90Hz, you either achieve stable 45 FPS in Flight Simulator or the experience will be bad. This is a recurring issue with PSVR2 on PC—it performs poorly, and I don’t know why, as it should be the opposite due to using DisplayPort and not requiring encoding like Quest 3.
