Pushback Cart Does Not Connect to GA plane

I am wondering what should be the correct behaviour ?:

  • pushback in straight line and hit ALT+P to stop (like the C172)
  • pushback a little, then turn almost 90 degrees and automatically stop (like the G36). In this scenario I don’t think there is even an option to choose turn right or left

So if no additional changes are implemented in the SU5 Beta after this fix, I guess yes, new reports will be needed to attend the missing cart for the C172 (need to check if others aircraft have the same issue) and same pushback procedure to be applied for all aircraft.

I seem to recall, even back on MSFS2020, the pushback through the ATC window was kind of an “auto pushback” that would start and stop on its own, and orient the plane for taxi. (How it determined which way to turn was unclear). It seemed to me as more of an auto airliner pushback since it is more common to push you back and orient you for engine start. I don’t have 2020 anymore so I can’t really double check my recollection.

Ignoring all of that, what I would expect is that there should be a cart in all cases. Pushback should wait until the cart connects, not start immediately. If you are requesting through ATC, then you should also be required to request turns and request the end of pushback. If you are starting pushback with the ALT-P keybind, then it should do an “auto” pushback because there are no keybinds for left and right turn (at least not that I’m aware of).

One existing problem with using ATC for start, stop, left, and right is that it takes a while to get through all the dialog, so you need to issue your commands several seconds before you want the action to start. You can issue too late and not stop the turn or stop the pushback in time.

So many little things to consider for such a seemingly simple function!

Tested in FS2020.

C172: cart is there, is connecting to the aircraft and pushbacked in a straight line until pressing shift+P :

G36: cart is there, is not connecting to the aircraft and pushbacked in a straight line until pressing shift+P :

LOL, the mystery deepens  Now do it all over again at a 2020 towered airport!

(No, you don’t need to do that. Thanks for looking at these variables.)

There must be some variables in the plane’s definitions, too, that are part of the mixed bag of behaviors.
